Does the US suffer from extreme poverty?

The United Nations expert on extreme poverty says he was shocked by what he saw during a two-week tour of the US.
No sewage system in parts of Alabama and political neglect compounding the impact of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico are a part of his findings.
Philip Alston will be presenting his preliminary findings and recommendations on Friday.

Im kinda confuse.... isnt usa should have lowest poverty on earth? Its developed country, great economy, great currency and literally without usa the world will go on crisis.

I travel 42 states during my 16 years travel there is suffering. Baltimore is a third world country where the wealthy live in mansion while the poor live in dump.

I heard that Alabama's poverty is due to multiple factor: 1) self-inflicted environmental damage (toxic environment), 2) non-agile/slow politics (politician slow to react to issues), 3) climate change that depletes fresh water supply (which effect agriculture and economy), and 4) domino effect from connected neighbouring states (which degrade along with Alabama), (and also other factors) but overall it could be summarised as an excessive early GROWTH and a rapid societal COLLAPSE due to resource depletion brought on by unsustainable growth produced by unregulated/ unrestrained economy. This region was mentioned in a talk titled "Societal Collapse" in TED channel, probably from around 2003.
