Since a few people have asked: The back and forth tests after the autofocus section are not to be evaluated for image quality. That's only a monitoring/info display recording, not a 4K clean feed. It's the only way to show what the eye tracking is doing. And the colors are just a Rec.709 monitoring LUT, not a final grade. I only included it to evaluate autofocus performance, not compare image quality to my main angle. Hope that helps! 🤓👍

The fact that he owns/uses Sony but isnt biased towards that system and can give honest reviews is what I really appreciate. Also own Sony but I do like to keep up with what other manufacturers are doing

I get the odd feeling Gerald has enough dynamic range to know EXACTLY what we do in the shadows.

Great video. RE dynamic range: it's become clear that Canon hasn't moved beyond using a 12 bit A/D conversion in video mode. Canon Log 3 can encode roughly 14 stops if you have it to encode. There's actually nothing wrong with 12 bits as long as you know what that entails, but does sacrifice a fair amount of exposure flexibility when shooting in uncontrolled lighting situations. Other than the other standard Canon annoyances, as both an R6 and R6II owner, I can happily confirm that the mark II variant is a very good camera for both stills and video for existing Canon shooters. I wouldn't be switching platforms over it, but if you're already a Canon shooter looking to get into RF mount from EF, this camera is a great entry.

I got one too, no time limit for video shooting, not overheating, great camera overall.

that look after "regardless of what you do in the shadows" is priceless lmao 07:08

Another point worth noting: usually full-frame cameras feature not just more background blur, but also have an advantage in image quality, but since the dynamic range in the R6 ii is artificially limited, the R7 can have exactly the same dynamic range, while costing $1, 000 less.

Damn the a-roll is looking hella fine! So satisfying to compare between different videos the changes you've made and how you've made everything even better!

I appreciate both the seriousness and professionalism of this review along with the mild cynicism towards the whole idea of of parsing out the differences between cameras in 2022. In the end it’s entertainment for me. I mostly don’t care about cameras anymore.

These endings never fail to put a smile on my face. :)

This is the video I should've watched before buying my r6ii a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't have made me not buy it but it would have prepared me about some of the things I dislike about that I found out while using. Always appreciate your thoroughness, Gerald

for me it's colour that always does it with Canon. When you switch to Canon the colour becomes much nicer, no more cold Sony magenta vibes

Holy noise when he switched! when I had an a6400 running 1080p slog3 8bit it had less noise than the m6ii X.x

I bought mine before watching this video!
I've been waiting patiently for the video!

I already bought the R6ii recently in Dec. sales, but still learning the camera, and this video says a lot to its features. Nice that this camera stacks up fairly well against the Sony. Both have some pros and cons but are great cameras in their own right. Now it just goes to which RF Lens I end up buying. Anyway, thanks for reviewing, and I enjoyed meeting you briefly at a Vistek show in Nov. 2024 in Toronto! Excellent reviews on your YT, Gerald.

Its interesting to see that dynamic range of fuhi xH2 in non oversampled 4k is still better then the one in Canon R6 mark 2. Makes Fuji really not a bad choice now.

I'm not the only one who noticed the hilarious look on Gerald's face at 7.09 when he alludes at questionable behaviour on our part that might take place in shadows, right? 😂😂🙏🙏

Canon need to give us Clog 2. Then we can understand the full potential of the sensor.
