I like it but it would be really nice if you did something with a regular school pencil. I know it probably wouldnt look as accurate but would help someone like me who doesn't have these resources all the time and would be very helpful

How beautifully your portrait came alive as you added layers. Thank you for sharing your technique, Emmy. I was watching just for the fun of it. Many artists use this 'grid' technique but somehow, looking at their final portrait, I notice a certain hardness and harshness in the face. That is not the case in your portrait here. It boils down to the shading and layering that you do. Even if one had to use a single, ordinary pencil, I feel that blunting it for shading purposes may result in somewhat the desired look. Also the pressure applied, how one holds that same pencil may make a difference. (I'm saying this from experience a long time ago, drawing for my personal biology journals). That said, over time, one may need to invest in a few basic artist pencils from time to time to enhance one's work and to see better results. Once again, thank you, Emmy Kalia.
