The one I most disagree with you is your view of Percy Jackson. I think it’s hypocritical to think Harry Potter should be higher while PJO shouldn’t be on the list due to their similarities. Personally I prefer PJO to HP. I think PJO has far superior characterization to HP, while HP is far more formulaic and predictable.

WARNING this is a fairly redundant video. That being said, I felt there was enough difference to merit a different video.

Thank god for Asoiaf cause without it I never would have gotten in the world of amazing fantasy books. And never would have been inspired to start writing.

"The Expanse?" The Foundation maybe, but "The Expanse" is definitely sci fi.

Hyperion is one of the best books I’ve ever read in my life! Seriously it’s amazing.

Daniel, I respect your opinion on Dune young man. Reading is a very subjective experience. Maybe is a generational thing BUT Frank Herbert was simply brilliant. No other series touches on so many topics in such an elegant and epic way. Politics, religion, economics, science, ethics are all topics the author tackles and does so well. It was simply a masterpiece. The film adaptation of 1984 does not begin to do it justice.

People hating harry potter are no worse than people hating king killer chronicles haha. Writers can't resonate with everyone, and at the end of the day it would be a pretty bland world if they could.

Red Rising doesn't even BEGIN to come close to fantasy. There isn't even any magical elements in it.

Raymond E Feist, for me, would have been in the top 5. Got his whole body of work from a friend who had collected it and was emigrating. A good couple of months of awesome fantasy reading. Oh, and LOTR No.1

Just ordered The First Law Trilogy & the first of Gentleman Bastards because of the high praise they've both gotten here on this channel! With those I will have read all of the top 10 picks of this list. I'm pretty excited and have high expectations!

Some of my favorites that I immensely enjoyed (though not top favorites) include abhorsen, bartemeus, 7th tower, and the belgariad.

Not sure how I haven't seen you in the booktube SFF community before, but glad I stumbled on this from the youtube recs, as you seem to cover a lot of solid SFF content. Nice assessments over all, it seems worth pointing out /r/fantasy has grown to cover all spec fic, so the list is /r/fantasy top novels, not top fantasy novels. It's also explicitly encouraged in voting on this list to vote based on nostalgia and personal enjoyment, as this isn't meant to be a qualitative assessment of the books. This isn't a "best' of" list, nor intended to be, it's just a list of the books most enjoyed by people on the sub reddit, which i think is the main cause of the quibbles you had with the ordering.

Wanted to comment this on your last video but it'll work here: I'd love to know what you think of Robin Hobb (others have said the same I see) so you should really give her a go! At least the first couple (Assassin's Apprentice/Royal Assassin). My second favourite author, easily, is Stephen Donaldson, but I can save you some time there and tell you not to read Covenant, because it'll definitely make you very angry ;)
