The main reason why I prefer Japanese 151 over English is that I can pull a hit and have the first thought of “nice, lets go” instead of “let me check the quality”

Here are some advantages that Japanese Pokémon cards have over English Pokémon cards
1. Japanese Pokémon cards have better quality
2. Japanese Pokémon cards are much easier to grade

Thought you were going to touch base on the print quality differences between English and Japanese cards.

I believe that even though, the English 151 Pokemon cards have better pull rates, the Japanese version has more expensive cards because they are harder to pull.

This didn’t age very well… highest card from Japanese 151 is a master ball gengar. $170 raw and like $250-$300 PSA 10. The charizard is like $90-100 raw $140 at a PSA 10. English charizard is $600 at a PSA 10 and more than the Japanese PSA 10 as a raw card.

In general JPN cards is better overall in terms of quality control, especially centering. But for 151 it seems there’s quite a fair bit of cutting and print line issues bugging the JPN set.

Also 1 major disadvantage of JPN cards is probably u may not be able to sell away your bulk unlike ENG bulk where you can sell on Ebay, TCGPlayer etc. Though the big hit cards for JPN in general is higher in value than ENG ones.

There are 3 reasons why JPN cards are more expensive. Supply. Rarity and Condition.

In Japan, You can buy one pack for 180 yen (1.2 dollars) at convenience stores, a box with 30 packs for 5000 yen(32dollars) from the official Pokémon store (sometimes 3600 yen(23 dollars) in large electronic retail stores), boxes with promo cards but less packs for about 3000 yen on the official store (under 2000yen in most electronic stores),

I mean if their boosters go for 50 bucks in Japan and theres 20 packs wouldnt that make their packs worth 2.50ish retail in japan? They get a guarantee SR or better and a masterball per box and theres not guaruntee for english? They get 20 packs for the same price we get 9. Yeah its more expensive to collect Japanese if you live in the US but it sure seems like this isnt a 1 to 1 comparison

Why can the company that prints the English version get a way with such bad quality? Is the quality control just not there?

For me, if its a set i dont care for much but i love the certain cards i go japanese because the print quality, holo and textures are better in everyway.
if its a set i like most of the cards in i buy english so i can just go to my local card shop and open a pack and pull for fun.
examples: 151 english set, i love the entire set and would love to just have fun opening packs.
raging surf japanese set bought the yvelta, groudon, and garchomp ex.

I’m having massive issues with the poke ball and master ball cards. Factory lines all over the place…
