Kia Sorento 2021 review: Sport+ diesel

The new Kia Sorento is causing a lot of buzz and it’s not hard to see why. A new interior design with a much more streamlined, better looking tech system and new exterior as well, and this seven-seat SUV has a lot to sing about. It costs around $3000 more than the old Sorento, but it does boast more features.

I test drove the Sorento Sport+ which is second from the top in a range of four, in the AWD diesel version.

It costs around $55,850, before on road costs and competes with cars like the Mazda CX-9, Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Kluger.

The Kia Sorento Sport+ is a great family car with plenty of space and it really feels good to drive. There’s a brand new stylish design, loads of boot space when the back seats are down, and a much more streamlined tech system. It's one of those cars that has all your bases covered.

Its remarkable that Hyundai-Kia still managed to keep 3-row seating as standard across all variants even with the Turbo-Hybrid and most especially the upcoming Turbo-PHEV next year, despite the additional batteries and electric motors taking up space at the rear.

I just did a test drive of the Gt line-disesel, yesterday. What i observed:
-Looks even better than in pics and videos, although the side view looks plain but it suits the overall muscular look.
-Interior was very porsche and very high end. Infotainment was very smooth and high resolution. Only thing i didnt like were the air vents, not my taste but wife loved it. If this had the interior of the new 2022 tucson it would have been perfect. My other small issue was the driver display, the blindspot monitor in the display was small and most times unusable, check this if you have impaired vision.
- The drive was almost perfect, the car had an intense acceleration. The diesel engine sounded mean and muscular. Very quiet inside the car, can only hear the engine at high revs. You feel the small bumps slightly because of those 20 inch alloys but on bigger bumps i felt nothing. 0-100 kmph was like 7 seconds. Car was giving 7-8 l per 100km mileage. Also, the car is ridiculously good on corners.

This is my balanced view, i loved the car, its a percect family car. I will be buying the GT line diesel next month.

Very thorough video thanks. The UK automotive media haven't done any reviews on the new sorento yet, which is a shame, as it looks very good. All the safety equipment you get as standard, you would have to spec on similar cars such as the Skoda Kodiak. So the Sorento is definitely worth the asking price.

How about the solidity of the suspension system of the new sorento ? Is it tough and suitable to the harsh roads ? Will it still be going well after 150000 km, and which is more solid and reliable, this sorento or the new ssangyong rexton?
I hada kia sportage 2017 and it was not solid and durable enough like my wife rav4 ..

Kia have come a long way and overall this is a great looking and built SUV - if it was 2010. Diesel is on its way out. If this was electric or hybrid petrol I would buy it. But it’s not. So I won’t.
