And let me just add im glad that the bus boycott led to real change, the way black ppl were treated during that time was horrific! My only thing is Claudette was hidden when SHE was the real hero of the story and she NEVER got her shine! Makes you wonder what else has been manipulated in history?

I learned about her back in high school. The reason why they didn't want her was because she was 15, reportedly pregnant, and had darker skin. So they took her story and recreated it with Rosa because she was lighter skinned, older, and already an activist. It was a white man who taught my class about her because he said we should know the truth. Ever since i learned about her I tell people about her.

Also this tells you how close history is because she's still alive and she been through it. Her and Ruby Bridges are still alive. This tells you how much America changed in last 100 years.

Im from Montgomery, we ALL know about Colvin down here.

She gets a lot of honorable mentions but has sadly been overshadowed in the grander narrative.

Im glad more people are becoming more aware of her part in history and giving her the attention she rightfully deserves

This is why we delve deep into our past as a Country. To learn from it and not erase it

Wow! I am a 60 year-old woman and never was taught about Claudette. Rosa Park is who I was taught about in school. Great work you’re doing Chuck, keep it up. I learned from you every day.

I learned this truth in 2010 in my first year of college. I was 45 years old. I later wrote a paper about her. I was amazed at how so many of my black friends (and family) had no idea who she was, what SHE did and how MLKjr manipulated their own history. This doesn't tell her entire story. By the time Martin Luther King found out about this incident, Claudet was pregnant out of wedlock and he did not think it was a "positive" look to promote her. He went to Rosa Parks and convinced her to do the same thing, then proclaiming it success for civil rights. It made me wonder, what else did he directly influence?

She was robbed of her heroism. That's so unfair. I hope her story goes international.

There is a book called "Lies my teacher told me" that covers many lies that we are told are history but are really " his story". Told from the protagonist's view. Now I'm going to have to update my book with this info.

If Blacks don't think their prejudiced, see how they treat darker skinned Blacks. That young woman was the real hero and it took a lot of courage for a 15 year old to stand against a bus full of racists.

I did my report on Ms Coleman during Black History Month in school. A lot of people don't know this story. She didn't get any notoriety for it and I think she needs to be recognized. Rosa Parks was the secretary for the president of the NAACP. He was the one who told her to get on the bus and do this.

I learned about Claudette in college. I was so upset because I felt I had been lied to when I realized Rosa Parks was not a random lady but a set up and an activist looking for a fight.

Yes, as a matter of fact, there was a fifteen year old young lady who did that before Rosa Parks. The young lady's name was, Claudette Colvin. She refused to give up her seat because she said, "It is my constitutional right to sit here, " so Rosa Parks was not the first. Rosa Parks actually had some Marxis Communist leanings. The white couple Rosa Parks worked for were part of a Communist organization, they bailed Rosa out of jail after Rosa's bus incident. And the rest as they say. "Was history" 😮💯🤔🤦🏿

I recently listened to Judge Joe Brown on a podcast. He said they weren’t trying to erase her history. He said they simply knew her story wouldn’t be taken seriously bcuz she was a teen mom. Therefore, her image wasn’t clean enough. That’s why they used Ms. Parks basically tell her story. They knew SHE would be heard. Her image was cleaner, making it more difficult for the public and officials to downplay the experience.

What the heck? Not only was Claudette Calvin robbed, but so was the rest of us Americans. This woman needs to be remembered and for the true story to be told.

If you go to the civil rights museum in Memphis TN they have a sign that tells you that Ms Parks worked as a secretary and was on the bus to bring the injustice to light. But I don’t remember seeing any mention of the other young lady. I am 62 years old. Educated in Tennessee and Texas. Had always been taught that Ms Parks was a domestic worker worn out from working all day.

I’m currently reading her story now. What makes me made is that one of the reasons Claudette here was not mentioned was that she wasn’t “fair-skinned” like Rosa. That is so utterly frustrating that she was shunted again to the back because she didn’t “look the part”.

Wow! I NEVER knew this. I always heard that Rosa Parks was sitting on bus in the Whites Only section. They asked her to move and she just refused. That's it! No big deal. No great conflict. Now we find that it's all a lie! Shameful! For shame! If this keeps happening, what are we supposed to believe?

I did know about this actually. I thought it was disgusting regardless of the purpose. The world is a stage though and they were casting people not representing civil movements. It's truly a disgrace. Thank you though Chuck, give our boy love 🫶💕😘💖💝
