I thought it was because there's like 100 names in the dwarf name generator and 50 of them are Mentob.

yes I love it when a dwarf I nicknamed "were-hedgehog" shows up at the new fort after I had to abandon the last fort due to were-hedgehog infection

I'll never forget how my dwarves were struggling against a forgotten beast made of ice, a swordmaster from an old fort showed up in my tavern and decided to leave the fort through the caverns for some reason saw my dwarves struggling against the beast and then cut it in half with one swing of his adamantite sword. Just saw some anime shit there

What's cool about DF is the transient nature of it's worlds and the persistent nature of its worlds. I had a dwarf killed by a forgotten beast that I managed to avenge with their son many years later. The son had a pet yak that earned a name during a goblin seige as a wild yak that was subsequently trapped and trained at a previous fort. They both turned up in a migrant wave at my current fort in an evil biome and now wander the surface wastes together as mindless undead. Sad end to a story spanning three forts and nearly 50 years.

Shadow of War isn’t a MonolithSoft game
It’s from Monolith Productions, a very different studio

it's like that minecraft mod that makes you respawn in a completely random place when you die, so you almost like start a new game but can sometimes find your old bases

My first fort got destroyed by a were-lizard infection. So i abandoned the fort as i only had were-lizards left. I then made a new fort and got attacked by the were-lizard survivors of my previous fort

That's the whole reason "Tibia" was way better than "Runescape" back in the day. You throw an item on the ground in runescape and it's gone in like 2 minutes. You hide a bag under a tree or a rock (It was 2.5d) and quit the game and come back 6 months later and the bag is still there unless someone came and took it or the server did a major update and reset, but that happened like every 2 years at most.

My favorite activity was wandering the entire world as a druid, mapping out every nook and cranny while making healing runes and clicking left and right mouse button under every tree and every rock in the entire world. My entire night was "You see grass." "You see dirt." "you see grass" "You see a bag." *HALLLT* and go over to it.. and .. "You see a bag. It weighs 8.0 oz." SHIT. but wait.. items stack on each other infinitely.. so you move the empty bag and check again. "You see a bag. It weighs 37902 oz" Ohhh jackpot. Usually just a couple thousand meat or 10k worth of low-level loot that someone abandoned months ago, but it was so satisfying to find. The worst part is that it was a tile-based game. So you would click and drag the bag to the depot to secure it. Sounds easy enough, but anyone can steal it the same way. So you'd sneakily drag the bag to ab'dendriel (the elf town) since you could just throw it under trees the whole way there and unless someone was particularly astute, they weren't going to notice. It was such a tense game. A game with a permanent persistent world is sooo good if you are a forager/scavenger.

Yep and my favourite part is visiting my abandoned forts with RP characters as the main goal but I generally die before getting there lol.
P.s. I badly need the boats update

shadow of war is awesome ☹️ love me nemesis system

As a fan of both games, DF is a lot more complex. Shadow of mordor is really good at making you remember the different people you run into, the character personalities shine through more. Other than that it gets stale quick.

I played little of Dwarf Fortress but when i saw a dwarf named something that totally gave clue that he was a miner and then realizing he actually was a carpenter made it a goty immediately in my mind

Im sorry but the shadow or mordor/war games nemesis system. Was unmatched. It was absolutely fantastic. And it's locked behind a patent from the studio. Games would have progressed so much if it wasn't under lock and key. It shows how much you havnt played because everyone loved that system. Its not at all like dwarf fortress. DF is a basic story telling with text to portay the idea of returning characters, hell rimworld and other similar inspired games have done this as well. Not as hard to do as the system in the LOTR games. But I can see the appeal and I do love the game!

Both are good. I liked the lore presented to me in Shadow of Mordor and I also like the Lore that happens in front me in Dwarf Fortress.

But in terms of playtime versus cost, i played alot more Dwarf Fortress and it was free for me at the time. So yeah 👍

I can't believe it didn't occur to me until now how absurd it is that Warner Brothers insisted on enforcing copyright law regarding their Nemesis system when Dwarf Fortress had much more advanced implementations of that concept long before those LotR games were even in preproduction

I stopped playing shadow of mordor after some hours because I got bored and unfortunatly Dwarf Fortress got me outright addicted.

20:40 a lead warhammer would probably be fine. It would get misshapen from use and probably need to be reshaped after any battle with enemies wearing metal armor, but hard to beat heavy object moving fast

So will the history of the dwarves at the moment of retiring a fort and creating a new one in the same world be persistent? That's wild, I never knew as I rarely kept the same world, nor the fort for long enough.

I now have the Steam version which is much easier to navigate through and make sense of, especially with Stonesence on the second monitor.

Once werewolf suddenly attacked fisherman. He scratched the stomach of one and took the guts in a grip firmly. And in this condition he start chasing another one around the lake, like in Benny Hills, pulling the poor with him with the guts. Then he finaly reached another fishermen, kicked him from the legs, took his sock and 8 pages of battle log was beating poor guy with it on the head until he finally died, never releasing the grip over the guts of another.. grim and funny story
