My wife and I have decided to add reading the Bible in a year instead of giving something up for Lent per se. It has brought us so close together, both and marriage and to the Lord!

Giving up Coffee, wine, being reactive/snappy towards my husband. Donating to the diocese and rice bowl, donating to charities, learning the Act of Contrition in Latin.

This is actually very good advice. The suffering isn't a side effect, it's the whole reason we have to make the sacrifice.

I gave up sugar but it’s been rough. I’m praying more and going to confession. I have a yearning for loving God more, as much as I can. He is everything and so precious. ❤️❤️❤️

Among several things I have given up are the 3 C's: complaining, condemning and criticizing. When I find myself doing any of these I stop and pray the Our Father and a Hail Mary. My friends know I'm working on letting go of his bad habit not just for Lent but for always. The Hallow App is amazing. I don't use many apps in order to simplify my life but the Hallow app is an exception.

Hi Russell, I just started following you on YouTube…I gave up French Fries & Honey in my morning tea. I always do a daily Rosary & I’ve been doing the Bible in a Year & the Catechism in Year with Father Mike.

This is excellent, I love everything he said! Lent isn't just about "giving something up", but about growing closer to God, and lessening our attachments to material things. I am doing daily readings for Lent, and watching daily videos from "Dynamic Catholic", a wonderful organization, plus other videos. The one that Russell mention is great too. Also, I'm trying to be more generous and helpful to those in need, doing more acts of kindness, and more prayer. But of course these kknds of things can and should be done always, not just during Lent. But Lent really is a good time to focus more on one's spiritual life, and on following Christ.
