So much of our lives feels like it's up to chance. There's an endless number of paths we could've taken. But research is uncovering the possibility that what we think of as 'good' and 'bad' luck are strongly influenced by our psychology. There's an emerging "science of luck" that strongly suggests that we can make our own luck.

The psychologist Dr. Richard Wiseman has studied hundreds of people from all walks of life, to find out why some people live such charmed and lucky lives, and others experience so much misfortune. He describes his finding in his book "The Luck Factor," along with exercises and techniques to increase the number of positive opportunities in your life. We'll look at some of his findings in this video, along with the possibility that luck may also be something more than just psychology. We explore ideas of fate, destiny, and Joseph Campbell's concept of 'following your bliss' and being helped by 'hidden hands.'

Interesting how these videos bring to my attention my own ways of thinking. For example, the idea of having tunnel vision. Tunnel vision is something I've always fought against. I think the brain is comfortable with having a goal. It reduces anxiety. But if we look at it as a form of laziness, then we can keep our mind open to possibilities in front of us.

I’m a lucky person. I’ve been wondering why, and this actually answered a big part of my question!

"Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity" - Seneca.

I have had some crazy experiences that even I can barely believe. Many would say I have bad luck, but I see it as the opposite. I walked away from it alive, and learned some valuable lessons.

My mom often told me, my guardian angel must be working hard to keep me out of trouble.

My whole life I have always believed I'm a very lucky person ; I've always said that to my family, friends, and work colleagues, and you know what? I'm right! Because I am lucky and am grateful for that every day.

I have found money on the sidewalk, $300, just laying there with no one on the street. And I've found many abandoned books that completely changed my life. Funny, I never thought I was lucky until I saw this video. Totally naïve, I know, but I never gave it a second thought. I guess I've been lucky for so many years that I just took it all for granted.

Making luck find you is so true. There is a boxing gym four miles from my house and I would always push off going there because I didn’t want to walk there. I finally got bold enough to do it and it turn into me now having clients and I open and close the gym now. All because I decided to step out my comfort zone and boldly go to what I know

Hands down my favorite video you’ve made!! Reminds me so much of my husband. People are always telling him he’s lucky and he always replies “I just know how to make good decisions.” I have always thought he is completely in the flow of his life and somehow is always in the right place at the right time. Its kinda beautiful to watch. It’s funny though, he gets offended sometimes when people say he’s lucky. I think it’s because he gives everything he’s got to what he’s working towards. Anyways Thank You Elson for putting into words something I’ve been witnessing for many years now. You describe it perfectly!!🍀

I appreciate your videos, Elson 😊
I guess I don't see things as good or bad. It's all just learning and growing opportunities. There are a lot of things in my own life that others have seen as bad luck but from my own perspective, I've never seen as bad luck. Years ago, I got sick from a rare illness. I didn't really see that as bad luck. I saw myself as fortunate for having friends, family and support to help me through it. To have had the opportunity to discover my strengths, to relate to others in a new way and to find things to be grateful for. The saying "turning lemons into lemonade" is true in life.
Also, I agree that the gut-brain connection is very important. It's believed that poor gut health even leads to depression and other mental illnesses. I wish that can be studied further instead of the immediate urge to medicate people with pills that disrupts/numbs their neurotransmitters.
Thank you for following your bliss and creating these thoughtful videos for us ☘️

There's a saying "You gotta make your own luck"

There's no clear path to success but there's definitely steps you can take that can position you to be lucky

Incredible video Elson! So many thought provoking ideas in this video, and it was really skillful how you tied it back to some of your earlier concepts of "following your bliss." I agree with you that mindset and consciousness definitely has a strong influence on luck. Unfortunately, there is a somewhat of a dark side to this, that many healthcare professionals see in their field, as you notice that people going through health problems or depression definitely seem to experience worse luck than the average person. In many ways, both positive and negative success spirals are very real, and for good or bad, this universe seems to reinforce whatever you are focused on, and so it is really easy for bad to lead to more bad, or good luck to lead to more good luck. I really wish this was something that had been taught to us earlier in school. I think that one of the biggest challenges in this game of life is to stay positive even during the inevitable difficulties and setbacks that happen to everyone. There's a good book called Liquid Luck that discusses a lot of the concepts you covered in the video, which you might like. Keep up the awesome work following you bliss Elson!

Whoa that closing sentence about the insect & flower and how they actually make the world stay alive-- made me tear up 🥹
I really wish everyone in this world finds their blissful destiny sooner than later in life.

What a magnificent energy to emit from oneself.
