In military aircraft is interesting when you compare air force landing gear, like the F-16 to navy aircraft, like the F-18. The navy based aircrafts that are designed for violent landings on carriers have much beefier landing gear.

that hingey-looking doodad in the front is called a torque link and serves to prevent the strut rod from rotating inside the strut cylinder.

Maybe the animation was based on an aircraft type that doesn’t have it, but commercial airliners with this type of landing gear do have a so called walking beam, which is unfortunately missing from the animation…

Strengthened portion of the wing - usually the gear connects to the rear spar of the wing and the main landing gear beam.
The actuator “extends to retract” because of the larger surface area of the piston side without the rod inside the cylinder. Extends the actuator to retract the gear.
How many people are going to say that this aircraft doesn’t have main landing gear doors?
