Hello friends and foes of Middle-earth! Today we'll continue the series of videos where I go through all the released material from Amazon about the upcoming show The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. How lore-accurate will this be? Probably not very much! But let's go through it all and see. I'll give points for lore-accuracy and negative points for lore-inaccuracies as well as my own personal ups and downs based on costumes, names and decisions made by Amazon and the showrunners. While this is very much a rant, take it with a grain of salt as well! At the end of it all we're here to talk about lore and also having a bit of fun as we both laugh and cry at what The Rings of Power is doing to Tolkien's works.

In the next part, part 6, we will do a breakdown of teaser 2 (the sneak peek), discuss the article about Galadriel and Halbrand and lastly talk about the infamous article about Númenoreans (and how half their army is female now, apparently).

It seems like the lore that was followed correctly was done simply by accident.

I really love how calm, objective and fair you stay through all of this.

The lord of the rings fantasy was about a decay world.... to remember the brave warriors who fought evil... to find yourself.... not the reflection of a modern era that sucks ass from a straw

Nice of you to especially welcome the showruiners.

why are the elves principals broad-shouldered, heavy-set, square-faced guys. Aren´t elves not to be ethereal, tall, slim?

I'm honestly at loss at some of Celebrimbor's workplace description by the actor.
“His abode, his place of work, ” marvels Edwards. “When I walked on set I was astonished –bowled over — simply to see the forge … and all his extraordinary antiquities around the place. To see his tools, and he has a little antechamber with a velvet chaise longue in it. Love that. I didn’t know that that was going to be there. I love that … he likes to go and have a little lie down on his velvet chaise longue when things get [a bit much]. ..."
I'd like to ask someone who's familiar with forge or smithies; do that place usually have "a little antechamber with a velvet chaise longue in it"? Wouldn't anything velvet would get destroyed quick, or unless it's another of the "magic from fantasy" thing?

Celebrimbor looks like someone who saw a smithy only on paper. He looks more like a librarian than a blacksmith. If you were to tell me that this dude forged 19 rings and he is the best blacksmith of that time I wouldn't believe you.

I fully agree that Gil-galad is the most lore-accurate character so far (save for his age appearance in comparison to Galadriel). And yes, their overuse of 'politician' is annoying. Heck, I would rather have Elrond described as a courtier at the start, and Gil-galad should definitely be called a King at least, High King would be even better.
As for Celebrimbor, three of Feanor's sons had auburn-ish hair, going back to their maternal grandfather, and while Curufin probably had a typical dark hair of the Noldor, it is not TOO much of a stretch for me. But yeah, he is too old-looking. And rather than 'vain', a better word would be 'proud', especially combined with ambitious. But I can sorta see where they are getting it from:
"But Sauron had better fortune with the Noldor of Eregion and especially with Celebrimbor, who desired in his heart to rival the skill and fame of Fëanor."
He also doesn't become the "Lord of Eregion" until after the ouster of Galadriel and Celeborn around latter half of the 14th century Second Age, although this does depend which version of Galadriel's history is followed. Also, due to the time compression, dropping this detail is understandable, as much as I dislike the time compression itself.

Celebrimbor 😭😭😭 I was so excited to see this character, his great resemblance to Feanor, both in appearance and skill, but with the nobility and wisdom his grandfather never had.

Thats the funny thing: The showrunner's explanation for white skinned orcs is, that they live underground away from the sun. So thats why they have pale, white skin.

Of course, the same logic doesn't apply to the dwarves for some reason, lol. They are literally pissing on us and aren't even polite enough to try and convince us it's rain.

I mean if we get Orc wives and kids and Orc husbands talking about going off to war and Orc kids running around playing. Then when the wife finds out her husband has died, she hugs her kids and they all cry. I think Im going to throw up tbh.

There seem to be hints that the writers actually are aware of some lore, and merely choosing to bend and twist and alter it for their own purposes. I think, besides wanting to "modernize" the messages for a "modern audience" which is the #1 problem, the other thing this show suffers from on a conceptual level is that the writers don't know how to write for these characters. How do you write immortal elves dealing with the affairs of elves as only elves do? We have to soften unlikeable characters and weaken strong characters and water down complex characters, so on and so forth because elves are so lofty and majestic that they believe the audience will get bored of it. Hence much of the alteration... They also have no excuse for bad costumes or effects, but that at least *might* be overlooked if the story were good.

Elves in this show are so ugly, there is nothing ethereal about them... Elrond looks like he is some random guy (not to be mean, but his face more suitable for a hobbit, just comely). Tolkiens' elves supposed to be tall and have "out of this world" beauty. Also Galadriel is very plain, looks like human female fighter lol.
