Back in the old days they made actual Iron Man suits and used CGI to cleanup imperfections.

Why I hate the mark 50: it doesn't look realistic anymore, it looks too much animated compared to the realistic armors like the mark 3 or 6.

Special effect companies are more and more squeezed out these days, while the number of CGI is increasing, so a lot of the CGI the companies do recently is actually half finished. Some guy from CGI company that won some award tried to talk about it on the award show, but his microfone was cut off...
I thought the special effects in infinity war looked bad too, but I wondered if that was just my personal preference..and then I searched the internet about it, and it was a thing most people find...It just looks so fake. Tony;s and Bruce's heads are just floating there, with inconsistant lightning/shadows compared to their suits... So yeah..unfortunately very fake looking

How the suit appears is awesome, good animation, but the HELMET THO, THAT'S FUCKED UP, IT SUCKS! it's like just deleting the file in half a second, the hair just appears.

While I wouldn’t say that the CGI itself is terrible, the suit up scene is pretty bland, while the suit up scenes were pretty much the highlight of the Iron Man films.
