BMW 128ti Review - FWD FTW

BMW has gained a lot of experience making fun to drive FWD cars over the past 20 years by making MINIs and it really shows in this particular version of its new 1 Series. The 128ti is one of the most fun to drive and capable front-wheel drive hot hatchbacks, but you can't get it with a manual transmission. Does that ruin the experience? Watch the video to find out.

Close to the 6-minute mark of the video, I say the 128ti is a mild hybrid, but it actually isn't. Its extremely good throttle response for a turbocharged engine comes courtesy of the way the turbocharger itself is designed, not any electric boost from an ISG. What made me think it was a mild hybrid was the brake energy recuperation meter that's displayed in the instrument cluster.

Jus picked up one in the same colour with red accents, ultra low milage and very happy! Drives exceptionally well, great in the corners and the LSD really helps to slingshot the car out of the corners. Another huge plus is the interior, just a step up from the compition and makes it so mcuh easier to live with.

Great video! Really nice editing and outstandingly thorough insights on subjective driving impressions, I love it! Numbers are cool, but feelings are better. I drive an F40 myself, but only a civil diesel one. Good to see even the new "Golf-ish" 1 series has some fun variants.
