Shows how kids (and adults) will pick on someone who’s considered “different”. I can’t imagine how tough it must’ve been to have to lose your vision again. But hey you persevered and you’re where you are today.

I was born legally blind as well. I also have albinism ( albino ). I was teased by kids that would make fun of my eyes moving. They also used to cross but I ended up with 2 strabismus surliest to straighten them out. I too have photophobia because I was born without any pigment. The lack of pigment is the reason I am legally blind.
I often wondered about nystagmus surgery but I didn’t look into it seriously.
Being legally blind didn’t hold me back from friendships, getting married/divorced, or having children.
But sometimes it is tuff.

I love seeing you, I can't describe how much I feel motivated as a mother of a legally blind 4 years old boy, I hope if you come to Germany one day that he can meet you

Wow, that must’ve been really tough to go blind twice. I am legally blind as well, and I’m very wary of experimental treatments. You never know if they will actually improve your vision, or if you might end up losing what vision you do have. Also, kids used to ask me how many fingers they were holding up all the time. So annoying.

Hey man. I'm also LB, have severe congenital nystagmus, nearsightedness and one eye crosses in a little. I caught hell as a smaller kid too. Made me a bit meaner, but I made it. I have to look a lot closer etc, and I got over a lot of insecurities though not all, like trying to hold eye contact with someone. That's still very frustrating, as some take my inability to make eye contact as a sign of being disingenuous. Anyway, I fought my way into the workforce and currently work for NASA. Never give up.

Hello James, I just want to say... I needed to see this video and I can’t thank you enough for putting it up. I am legally blind myself and there have been some times in my life I just wanted to give up, I had to stand against bullies and teachers as well. Please keep doing what you do man, I really look up to you for it.

I can relate. My very first day of kindergarten I tried to play with some kids. They turned around took one look at me. "We don't want to play with you".

Teacher didn't care. Or even try and explain anything to the class. Let's just say that was the beginning of a lifetime of drama.

Let me not end on a down note though. My dad was in the army so we moved. A lot.

When it came time for high school. I was sitting in the office. While my dad talked to the principle (a standard thing he had to do at every new school.

Anyway. I'd learned to draw. And knew what to expect when I got to class. And sure enough I stepped in the room and the whispers started.

"Is he blind, I don't know can he see"?. I sat down opened my bag and pulled out my sketch pad. "Could a blind kid do this". The whispers gave way to oh's and awes.

Teacher didn't say a word. She just smiled and let me handle it. Took back my sketch pad and class went on.

For the record. I'm albino and my eyelids droop. I always look ridiculously high. Like it or not I attract attention.

And thanks for sharing.

Hi James
I have nystagmus along with Aniridia, glaucoma, cataracts, and corneal dysfunction. When I was in high school, there was a small group of boys who nicknamed me "Buzz-On" because of my nystagmus. I have always been legally blind. Lost complete site in my left eye 30 years ago. The vision in my right eye has gone from 20 / 200 to 20 /800 the last 10 years.

Heey James. I am not visually impaired but i do know what it is to be bullied. Its really crap. And the trauma’s of bullying are visible in my life and stay forever. I think that Every single person has quality’s and i accept Everyone the way they are. And i think you are great and you are doing fine. Yeah you are legaliteit blind and that sucks. Butt it doesn’t devine for who you are. So keep going the way you are because you are oké. And i really love youre video’s

congrats on being legally blind and being able to do something with yourself. For me at 20/85 with nystagmus it's enough to have troubles reading and finding things and have troubles with visual directions. I also cannot legally drive. But to the disability assistance world I don't qualify for jack crap. I look normal to everyone else so when I ask for visual assistance they think I am making it up.
