Understanding Hazards, Risk and Security: Health, Safety and Environmental Impacts

When we discuss “hazards, risks, and impacts” related to the movement of crude oil, how can there be such a divergence of opinion? Part of the problem is that different professions, agencies and industries use very different, definitions for these terms, and apply them to different subsets of a complex unified system of systems. We will explore the use of key terms across disciplines, and how a lack of common usage negatively impacts our ability to effectively address issues related to crude oil movement within the Great Lakes Basin.
