Riot Intern: Jason's Story

Every intern finds their own way to Riot, this is Jason’s.

While pre-med at Vanderbilt University, Jason realized he needed to pursue something more inline with his passions. A gamer his whole life, he’d long immersed himself in the worlds created by the games he loved. He became fascinated by the visual effects that made the game and characters come to life.

He set out to teach himself VFX before putting together a portfolio and applying to art programs. His drive, talent, and passion landed him an internship here and ultimately a return offer.

We asked him what his story would look like; this is what he made.

That's really awesome. Wish more companies did things like this, and maybe not just for school students but for everyone. The industry really needs to open their doors more for entry level people who want to learn and get their foot in the door. Every year at GDC there are tons of people looking to learn and grow as developers, but no one gives them a chance. There's a lot people, even industry vets, can learn from teaching. Hopefully more people embrace that mentality.

would have loved to intern there but there was no way its happening for me (foreign kid from non eu visa alone will take 6 months) so i settled on just getting job there in 2 years time... so see you in your art department then (or at the least contracted for art xD)
