So why do people hate on WordPress so much? Different tools for different needs (and budgets).
IMO, there's absolutely no need to build a CMS from scratch or even build a website from scratch if the website in question is a simple portfolio / online store type of site without any other specific needs.

And some reason not to use it:
- slow
- bloated
- php in html (no template engine)
- problems with security (if you use plugins)
- outdated architecture

So I probably just have wasted last 7 months learning Html/Css/JavaScript and Node.js with a goal of getting into freelance? Have no idea why I never though about WordPress more seriously before

Also it's very convenient to use WP via wp-json as a back-end and CMS for your REST APIs, whether they are made in Angular, React or else.

The reason you hear so much more about the pitfalls of WP compared to other platforms is that it’s the most used CMS in the world, not because its problems are completely unique.

One of the main reasons developers don't like WordPress is that it uses PHP. Well, modern PHP (7.3) is highly performant and has nothing to do with the crappy PHP 5.6 that a lot of legacy sites still use.

Regarding the security issues, the main issue is that people use terrible plugins that introduce backdoors combined with the fact that most people still can't write secure passwords to save their life, so that makes it easy to hack WordPress via /wp-admin

It's not really WordPress that’s the problem, it's how people use it. But this is a general problem, people _use_ software, they don’t understand the pros and cons (because it's freaking complicated tbh).

What is the point at which you should migrate your website from WordPress to a custom site?

Hey Stef, I learned HTML CSS and now I am learning php, I learned all basics and oop I want to do some projects and start to learn laravel, but to do something I always should now JavaScript. All people's say that you shouldn't learn 2 languages at the same time. Can I learn basics of the JavaScript and then continue to learn php ?(sorry if I have mistakes, English is my second language)

Is there any value in learning how to develop WP themes from scratch for clients? or is it better to stick with purchasing themes? I've heard pros and cons but the one that stuck out to me the most is that creating a custom theme from scratch for a single client and not a theme that is going to be sold to the public will increase speed and cut out the bloating.

Just wish they would update their architecture already.

Stef, I don't see any of your videos that actually explain what Wordpress is, or, what it can do for Web Developers. I took a look at their site, and, it looks like for $5 a month, with a yearly subscription, they will host a website. Do you think this is a good way for a beginner like me to get a public domain website up and running? I could handle $60 a year.

Stefan, could you make a video regarding your opinion on Test driven development (TDD)? My lead Dev suggested me to go with TDD building our new webapp based on experience building our previous app.

From your previous vlogs, I understand that u suggested to build features as fast as possible, and get feedback from users.

Is TDD only slowing down development? At what stage is it appropriate to go with TDD? Is TDD only appropriate for mission critical features? In other words, not everything needs to be tested? Or test everything?

Thx in advance

Loving the conversations in the comments, for me doing a ton of online courses I always got the idea that using wordpress is bad, I have also been struggling to get a junior developer job which I expect because I am self taught so I need to work harder to prove myself and build up my portfolio. I thought maybe I could try wordpress to make some quick cash, I kind of like wordpress for the obvious reasons, but for me it just feels CHEAP. I am so use to building from ground up that I don't feel in control when using wordpress, however I know the clients don't care they just want a website.

With that being said though I still have a lot to learn so i guess there is no right or wrong answer? I need more experience anyway, it all depends on what is the best tool for the job, so for now i think I will work with both but more on a focus of building skills with the core tech (html, css, javascript) and then using a front end framework like vue or react. I would much rather having a solid foundation with the languages than rely on a cms to do the job.

Thanks for the video! It came at the exact right time.
