Wyoming Population 🇺🇸 Why is Wyoming SO Empty? 😱

Why Wyoming is so empty? Despite being the 10th largest state in the USA, its vast landscapes remain sparsely populated. In this video, we delve into the fascinating reasons behind Wyoming's low population density. 🇺🇸 Wyoming boasts immense size, surpassing even many European countries like the United Kingdom, Romania, and Greece. Yet, with only half a million residents, it stands as the least populated state in America. Surprisingly, even Alaska, known for its rugged terrain, hosts more inhabitants. 😱 Comparing Wyoming to its neighbor, Colorado, reveals a stark contrast. While both states share similar sizes, Colorado boasts ten times the population. But what factors contribute to this stark demographic difference? Delving into history, we find clues dating back to 1858 when Colorado experienced a gold rush frenzy, attracting a massive influx of settlers. In contrast, Wyoming lacked significant gold deposits, failing to spur comparable population growth. Geography also plays a crucial role. Wyoming's landscape is predominantly rocky mountains, with only a fraction comprising the fertile Great Plains. Harsh weather conditions and persistent winds further deter agricultural development and population expansion. Moreover, nearly half of Wyoming's territory is federally owned, contributing to limited settlement opportunities. Yet, this land management has gifted us with breathtaking national parks like Yellowstone.

In 1973, I was driving through Wyoming and when I stopped for gas I saw a State Trooper. I asked him if it was legal to make a right turn on red in Wyoming. He scratched his chin and said, "Well, let me think. We only have 5 or 6 stoplights in the state. . . ."

Because the wind almost never stops. You just can't imagine how much it drives you crazy, wears you out physically and emotionally, until you stay there for a while.

I live in Wyoming, the weather sucks but the sights outweigh that. Some people don't realize it's not just flat prairie, there's Thermopolis (a city full of hot springs and mineral formations, right at the end of the ginormous wind River canyon, Yellowstone, there's natural arches and mini "Oasis" all over, and during spring the wildflowers and wildlife is absolutely amazing

The wind. Its cold all over the Rockies. But Wyoming has 2 winds, windy & super windy, all the time. It is more than unpleasant. Other states are drier, colder, or less lovely to look at, but Wyoming loses its appeal for making it a home after that cold wind rattles your bones for a few days. Everyone loves to visit Wyoming, few can stay.

Lived there for a year. Had to drive to Colorado for Sam's Club, Best Buy. It was cold, but the worst thing was the gloomy grey and white horizon covered in snow.

As a former visitor of that state I can only say it's super beautiful, people are friendly, unreal in the summer, also unreal in a different way in the winter. I think they are pretty happy being empty too.

Wyoming is a real beauty but it's not for the meek the weather and the terrain demand a certain fortitude.

I work as a truck driver and let me tell you the winters can be so brutal there. One reason why it gets so windy is they don't have tall enough mountains to help buffer the winds. Sometimes the wind speed can get up to 100 Mi an hour where are they have to shut down the interstate. Good old I-80.

I grew up in Wyoming. Evanston Wy, it is in the lower left (southwest) corner in the area cut into Utah's upper right. The elevation is right under 7k feet. Most people don't do well at that elevation. The winters can be very cold. It is quite usual to see negative 5 degrees or more for a bit in the coldest winter months. I remember snow that was 5-6 feet and having doors that open inwards so you could pull the snow into your house in order to get out vs an outward opening door, screen door, that would be blocked by the snow. The only people who really live in Wyoming are people who love the outdoors. Camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing are the real treat in a Wyoming life. Tons of great mountain vistas and epic cumulous cloud sunsets to rival anyplace on Earth. Few people live in Wyoming because it is very difficult to endure in certain parts of year. If you were raised there you have a kind of toughness and resilience that is not commonplace.

For me it’s not even that it’s cold in the winter, it’s that in the summer it’s still SO WINDY. You suffer through that terrible winter, and yet you get nothing good for it :(

They're including Kazakhstan as a European country that's smaller than Wyoming? That's so wrong! Kazakhstan is mostly in Central Asia, and it's almost ELEVEN TIMES bigger than Wyoming! In fact, it's the ninth largest country in the world. Just goes to show how untrustworthy the Internet is.

Former WY resident here. I loved living there. Open spaces, less people in the way, and I can sit outside and see all the stars in the sky. I would go back if I could.

Their probably not complaining about it. And you know they have those huge terrifying Jackalopes running around there. Also i was visiting there in July which was hot yet toward evening we took a horse drawn carriage ride near the mountains in the mountain shade and i didnt have a jacket and almost froze to death. Its cold in the shade of the Rocky Mountains .❤😊

Me thinking I’m cool being in Colorado right now as I’m stuck at another traffic jam in the middle of the day with another homeless dude aggressively asking if he can wash my windshield.
