Nathan Lane, renowned for his impeccable comedic timing and stage presence, is proving to be one of those legends who can make any material come to life. “It’s like going into battle,” he says of his approach to the craft, which he’s been honing in theater, commercials, TV, and film for over 40 years. In this interview, Nathan reflects on the influences and advice that has guided him, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic’s current impact on the entertainment industry.

Audiences likely know Nathan from “The Birdcage,” as the voice of Timon in “The Lion King,” guest star of “Modern Family,” or “The Producers” movie. His performance in “The Producers” musical, as well as “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and the recent “Angels in America” revival, have earned him three Tony Awards out of six nominations and over 20 Broadway credits, in addition to six Primetime Emmy nods, two Golden Globe nods, and a SAG Award. He now stars as a tough-talking detective in Showtime’s new series from John Logan, "#PennyDreadful: #CityOfAngels.”

This is fantastic! I’m not an actor or in show business, but I appreciate the art and always love to hear Nathan Lane talk about his work, especially theater. While I fear he is right about people not rushing to return to the theater, I’m really hoping we will be able to catch him in “Death of a Salesman” in the not too distant future.

Great interview! This was so insightful and fun. Nathan Lane is a spectacular actor!

All this has really has been a struggle to adjust to this "new" way of life. I moved to L.A. in March after making the decision to go full time acting being in Chicago 2 years. Just to be told, stay inside. LOL Yes, I laugh. This won't be forever. :)

Hoping success to all!!! Thanks @Backstage for this. Really does help deal with things.

Cheers!

I love him.

Nathan Lane is a fantastic actor, he's so awesome in every genre he plays (Iceman Cometh, The Birdcage, Mouse Hunt, The Nance, People V OJ Simpson, City Of Angels).

Is so Underrated in Hollywood (movie or tv show), shame Hollywood.
