For clarification are you completely cutting the zbar fin/frame with the multitool or scoring and snapping?
Last question, for securing the window with screws, do you drill a slightly biggger hole to fit the screw head through the first layer. Much appreciated!

Great video! Would love to see an example of an aluminum replacement where the fixed window bracket doesn't screw out. That's what I'm replacing and I just used a sawzall to cut it out after removing the glass. Curious what your method is. Also, what do you recommend for cutting the fin? It looked like a small reciprocating saw in the video.

I was a Glazier for many years , this technique on leaving the perimeter frame in would be a huge time saver but I think a lot of customers would not accept this kind of a short cut .

I have 1957 aluminum windows, which are atrocious. 6 @ 39w by 36t, 1 @ 39w by 51t, 2 @ 12w by 51t and then a small wooden window that's not able to open that I'd like replaced. I only want single hung...

I priced the windows, a single hung 39x36 is about $100 at home depot so let's just say the windows would be about $2k at most. My problem is when quoted to have replaced they want around $12 to $15k... wow. I assume they get windows even cheaper than that so most of that huge amount of money is going towards labor... which I just can't afford.

So my question to you is what do you think is a fair amount for labor to replace one aluminum window to a vinyl window? Thank in advance for any reply.

what do you do to prevent vinyl dust? I had a previous house with windows like these and the wind blew the vinyl debree throughout all the community? I purchased another property similar. Do others complain about this?

To be fair...the Before pics should have shown clean windows instead of dirt and spider webs. Also, the Before and After pics should have been level with each other to reveal the HUGE difference in window pane loss in new window.
Also, the new window comes with unequal finned finish. Did you guys not measure to ensure that all 4 sides of window have same amount of vinyl showing? Top and bottom are worlds away from sides. For the backside of an apartment with energy concerns this may be ok, but for curbside apeal or a single family dwelling this is not acceptable. Who would want 3" of vinyl at top and bottom and 1" on sides? In your words "This is how it should look all the way around @6:10." The trim should look equal all the way around. This would not be featured in a showroom.

no way i take out the metal frame put my flashing tape, inspect the seal do what needs to be repaired first whim caulk and replace. you put a new window and could leave rotten wood and etc. nope nope nope.
