Hey! It's awesome to see more people talking about music production on Linux!
What's your stance on using proprietary software though?

This aged pretty well, vital is now open-source. And everyone made videos about vital. Very excited for the future of music production on Linux.

Welcome in the linux music production world :-). You already gave a nice summary in this video. I'm looking forward for your next videos about this topic. I think you already know the monthly live stream by @unfa (a colleague of you), next stream this Sunday, 19.00 CET. About music production only with FOSS software on linux.

It is nice to learn that people start using linux for music production. I have switched to linux from windows xp some ten years ago, but I am mainly into recording classical chamber music so I don't need all those non-native plugins. I have been happy with it so far, I even run a small business so people pay me to produce their music in linux (actually, most of people don't care what I am using as long as I deliver good quality products)

This is a brilliant introduction to the world of music production on Linux and availability of software, especially for those new to it or whom may be undecided, or unsure about switching. You've brought together a good selection of options, in one place; thanks so much.

Cool video bro, thanks for inspiring me to give making music in Linux. I had no idea you could run plugins through WINE. Mind blown!!

I really love the streamlining that you get in many distros.
So many other OS eat resources just to function, leaving the budget focused musicians fighting the battle of spending money on audio hardware, or upgrading the computer. Which can often be a disheartening sequence of compromising.

I've released a good number of tracks using an old Dell laptop that has a max memory of 8 Gb.

The lightweight versions of Ubuntu (Lubuntu) takes time to set up and get "right" but the lack of bloated OS demands can give you a cleaner, sharper experience.

I have Zorin ( in which I think that I had to download Wine ). I'm glad that you mentioned this 'VST bridge'. It may be the thing that motivates me to start using Wine. I'm mainly interested in mixing down my Casio WK-200 keyboard, my Strat and maybe some vocals. Your video has been helpful. Thank you

Grande Francesco! Anche io produco musica con Linux da molti anni, sarebbe bello mettere in contatto un po' di progetti di questo tipo!

ZynAddSubFx and Helm are amazing (Zyn is so complex and confusing at first tho), but want to hear follow up about drum samples, different piano/harpsichord synths, sax synths, orchestral stuff, so on.

I've used reaper and it didn't support lx/lv2 plugins, was very clunky, thanks for showing alternatives, i will try them.

Amazing video, keep it up.
Try to lower bg music a bit maybe ;)

Good no-nonsense vid, thank you! I’m about to make the switch from Win to Linux. What is, in your opinion, the best distro for high performance stable audio for me? Want to have all my 64 tracks of synths on at all time and record an improvised jam session where I can jump onto any synth at any time without worrying about going back to the DAW to arm a track, etc… I want to let pure inspiration be the guide. :-) I have an RME MADIface Pro (USB class-compliant so it should work) on which an RME ADI-648 is connected by MADI, on which 8 AD/DA converters (8ch each) are connected by ADAT. My computer is an i5-13600KF with 96GB very fast RAM and 2TB fast nvme SSD. I will eventually want to connect everything by MIDI, with some vintage synths in CV-Gate, but that can wait. I’d really like to start with the good distro so I don’t lose too much time. I can do some console commands if needed but I don’t really know Linux, so I’d have to learn a little bit. Nothing too complicated if possible. But my priority is top audio performance, so if I absolutely have to avoid a GUI to reach that, so be it. Thanks!
