I was an Evernote user for 15 years (since 2008) and left a couple months ago for DevonThink on the Mac. And now I'm glad I finally did. That price increase is crazy, especially given that Evernote isn't the software I had been using. For a long time, they advertised it and developed it as "your second brain, " a place to keep everything so you could find it later. In the mid-2010s, they switched and it started to become this note-taking, project-managing team tool, a product I didn't need. But since I could still use it the way I wanted, I stuck around, especially since I could still use the Legacy software that wasn't Electron-based and still had Applescript support and a full set of keyboard shortcuts(!). But I finally had to face the facts and move on and I'm glad I did.

As for the other productivity functions: I use Obsidian, Drafts, and Apple Notes for note-taking and personal knowledge management; Omnifocus for projects and tasks, Slack for team collaboration. Evernote doesn't give me anything those don't do better.

I think their price increase is ludicris. Considering they did a price increase in 2016 where you had to pay more for a crappier experience. I left back then because of all the issues they were having and yet they thought they could charge more for a worse experience. I could be bias, but I am not going back to Evernote or paying that price until I see a consistent track record of actual improvements and stability that last. In my opinion they need to prove themselves once again, and considering the vast number of alternatives nowadays, I think that is a tough wall to climb.

Wow, that new pricing. I left Evernote 2 years ago because of their pricing AND their adoption of Electron. I just don’t understand how anyone thinks this pricing for individuals is reasonable. Craft is half the price, and a far better experience. Today’s news validates my decision I made two years ago… 😢

An almost 200% price increase for Personal plan. Absolutely insane.

Bending Spoon had the price increase before their purchase, for sure. They must have thought the previous Evernote team was "undervaluing" the software and saw a business opportunity. It reminds to be seen if they only bought Evernote for the money or if they had an actual interest in the productivity space.

Evernote informed about the prices unbelievable bad and late. This blogpost now made it better. But no, I left Evernote already, after they refused to tell me my new price 2 months ago. I’m back to other tools.

I’ve used Evernote since 2010. Had 2 paid accounts. Over time, this miraculous app went from being fast and almost instant synchronizing to slow and bloated. The Electron based move, CEO Small initiative, only slowed it down more and took features away. I’ve canceled one account. Have moved 21k notes out into Joplin, and working on my last 3k notes. After, I move the last 3k notes, I’ll cancel my remaining account and never look back. I’ve found open source Joplin to be wicked fast, a great alternative. Recommend users not to get locked into proprietary formats like Evernote. I also prefer companies that don’t fire half the employees of companies they acquire and double prices.

"I'm a bit on their side here"... Man. All these "updates" were released before it was acquired by Bending Spoons (the wrong way). A subscription service pays for continual improvement. So a price hike for this is not warranted. Bending Spoons does nothing else but acquire companies and blow up pricing. And not by a little. Disgusting. Used Evernote for decades but they lost me now. They must be paying you.

Hi Hopes! Just now needed to walk over to a product to take a pic for the tech support I was on the phone with - upon coming back to my desktop - where I had the same note opened at the same time on my phone and saw my typing LIVE on the iPhone as I was typing on desktop! MAN have had many problems with syncing - duplicate notes. Still can't believe what I just saw! If this works... will be willing to pay the higer price. Especially if search becomes more logical with simple filters. Fingers crossed.

well, I was still an Evernote hold out because I liked how it worked with my calendar and the clipper but I can't justify it for me at that price.

I left Evernote years ago, I still miss it, especially the iOS app, I found it easy to use quickly. But wow that pricing, no thanks, I was hoping there was a price reduction for personal users, not £80 a year

Why can’t I have an insert date function on the iOS app. Is it such a big ask??

Given what Bending Spoons brings, they will doubtless make big changes. But I have been a long-time EN user for fast and accurate searches. I am not wild about the price increase- but I think it was disingenuous of them to remove all of the export tools that made it possible to migrate to another product before they made an announcement that clearly would encourage people to leave. I have long used EN as the proverbial "second brain". Did not care that it was ugly. LOVED that it was fast and the search was accurate. The EN interface has never been beautiful- but it was functional in a way that other products were not. Now- I am waiting to see if their AI improvements are going to impact the killer indexing and search. That said- it is likely I will move on based on principle- owing to the decision to remove access to transition tools to One Note or Notability. Seems like it makes them an easy target for those who are not fond of PE mindset. "We are going to harden exit BEFORE we begin to make major changes in your favored product, making it hard for you to justify a change by moving YOUR data."

Used Evernote for about 5 years on a personal level, but it is now too expensive for me.

Evernote is not worth the money they are asking... at least not to me. I thought it was too expensive when it was $60 per year. Bending Spoons will need to do more than this to get me to subscribe. BTW, isn't "Bending Spoons" a reference to the fraudulent claims of Uri Geller to be able to bend spoons with just his mind? That almost sounds like they are warning us not to trust what they say.

The only reason I still use Evernote is the amazing PDF search (OCR). Which other app/tools offer this feature? Please let me know…

What app has a similar search functionality to Evernote? To store emails, docs, etc.
