A Hopi woman hinted at something like that as "a secret" to living in dry places. I am glad to see it IRL.

Ollas have become quite expensive where i live. I use a regular baked flowerpot with the bottomhole plugged

I've heard people will fill those with water and set them in the shade. The process of some of the water leaking out to the surface of the pot and evaporating actually cools the pot and the water inside. Not as cold as cold tap water, but was great back in the says before municipal water was available.

It’s a great product, our garden is in a high heat location and couldn’t water enough. Using one large and two medium our garden was full of life. Definitely recommend this product.

aca en México también utilizamos estas vasijas para beber agua fresca en tiempos calurosos sin necesidad de refrigeración, esta herramienta es un obsequio de nuestros ancestros 😉

Great share and explanation of exactly how “smart” the ollas (and the plants) are! ❤

Amazing how natives of American continent had so much wisdom, they understood the nature so good

Is a shame some of that knowledge is gone

Moved back home from working across the country, this summer. Been working nonstop since then but gardening has been on my to do list for years and I think I can finally start next year. Thanks for all the info!

I’m making my own Olla’s this winter for my new garden build next summer! I’m linking them all together to one large drum that i’ll only have to hopefully fill 1-2 times a month!

Ollas can also be used to cool water in a hot environment through precipitation.

First of all, the hat, the shirt, the whole look. It’s working for me. Love the vibe lol. Also this is so cool! Never heard of these before. Would love to learn more about how they came about etc. just subscribed to see more from you. I’m super in to gardening right now. I’m in Pa in the US. So it’s not the season for planting but I’m trying to learn everything I can to prepare for next season! My goal is to grow some “unusual” stuff this year like loofas, some interesting fruits, etc. so excited to see what you have to say and show!

Archeologists in the future: We're not sure what the heads were, exactly, but they likely served a risk purpose. They might have been meant as a symbolic sacrifice for good crops, or a plea to earth spirits to curse one's enemies.

I do that with plain terracotta pots; I use the drip dish as a cover, just bury them when I transplant seedlings.

It only holds 4 cups for almost 40$. Goodness. I think I'll use a terracotta pots without glaze finish and place a wooden cover on it. Oh yeah... Plug the bottom!

It's like a water source block irl lmao

These are now "trendy" and growing more expensive. I've seen it where someone pulled off a slightly less effective version of this using a 1 gallon plastic water jug. They poked a metric ton of tiny holes in it and it worked very well, but probably not as well as a real terracotta olla. Still might be a good way to reuse those gallon bottles.
