The 5950X does not have an iGPU, therefore the HDMI Port does not work - the VGA Port on the other hand is powerd by the onboard ASpeed VGA Controller and is tied in with the IPMI Controller.

For those looking at this video in the future. The 5950x doesn't have a gpu, you'd need a cpu with a "G " at the end for the onboard hdmi to work. Its the platform, not the mobo. All 7XXX amd cpus have a gpu onboard.

Great video, much appreciated.

Have you ever done a video on storage, the different types, how to divide it up and all the best practices? This is where I struggle big time.

Thanks again

For anyone new to this, this channel and awesome opensource channel are the holy grail of self hosted how to's.

I say this with experience watching and following them for over 3-4 years.

Hi Jay
We like whole of your proxmox series very much. We are using proxmox from its version 2. We recommend your videos to all of our new system engineers. Thank you for providing such an organized work on proxmox.
We are already running ceph storage cluster on proxmox 7.x. We recently tested samsung nvme ssd as secondary storage for ceph cluster on Dell R620. kindly make series of videos to explore SDN on proxmox 8. There is very short information on proxmox documentation and on youtube about using SDN on proxmox.
Thank you again for your efforts.

HDMI port is for ryzen with G and PRO parts like 5750G PRO and 5600G

5950x dosen't have GPU support only the G SKUs and the PRO ones
you can boot thanks to ASPEED IPMI in your motherboard which has GPU VGA support

I'm 15 minutes in and already want to say thank you. This is a very well done tutorial and I'm learning a ton. Thank you again!

Wondering about the cooler choice for this build. With a Ryzen 9 5950x, the Noctua website states that the NH-L9x65 SE-AM4 might fall below base clocks due to thermal throttle without an OC. In practice, how close did you get to thermal throttle?

Love this channel.
There are many video's about running ones firewall as a VM on proxmox. The one I use at home is Sophos XG which doesn't support 2.5Gb Ethernet, so running it in a VM works and allows me to use the remaining resources for other things (XG home use licensing). There are many vids/tuts on running ones firewall as a VM and their config is suitable to a lab environment. None of them seem to address the proxmox config necessary to connect to the internet for day to day use.
I'd love to see that.

I was afraid that there’s no a good proxmox course in internet, but I was wrong! Thank you a lot 😊

I'm a software developer at a cloud company which uses hypervisor technology like this. We (SDE) don't really get to see the things that happen in data centers. This really got me interested.

If you have no proxmox subscription, you may wish to disable the those repositories which trigger an error message while updating

Sounds like a bit of open source knowledge in your thinking also...

Love that.

If someone copied your business i would choose to shop with you because of how you desire and hopefully will continue to run your sustainable business (sustainable in many ways).

If your like anyone else people by on lowest price alone... stay strong and continue a multidemintional quality above the rest...

In the short term, hope all the long ad plays help a bit.

regarding the PSU: there are power supplies that follow that 3-screw in a triangle form factor, but are hard to come by. There are rackmounted chassis' with regular ATX PSU brackets if you look for it in the future :)
The PSU mounting is one of the deciding factors for me when shopping for a rackmount chassis.

You experienced one of my biggest problems encountered when building my Proxmox server. The Ryzen CPU's don't support integrated graphics UNLESS it is a G-series CPU like 4600G, 5600G, 5700G. So for me when trying to do the GPU passthrough to my Plex server is impossible as I didn't get a G-Series😥. I see why you went with the Ryzen 9 for high core/thread count, but it does not look like the Ryzen 9's have any G-series available. As of March this year the highest core/thread count you can get in a Ryzen (at least by the search I did) is the Ryzen 7 G-Series which has 8/16.

Please no one bash me for this comment placed on a well and knowledgable YouTuber's video, but I did so for the novice users like myself that may come across this video.

Hey, the VGA port has its own dedicated graphics chip (as all server motherboards i have encountered). But the HDMI port is dedicated for AMD CPUs with integrated graphics. It is also stated (not very clearly) on ASRock's product page.
ASPEED AST2500:
1 DB15, 1 (15-pin) header
AMD Ryzen™ Processors with Radeon™ Graphics:
1 HDMI

I have been through your proxmox course. Thank you for a clear and concise approach to this topic. I have created a Mint vm on proxmox. Do you suppose you could show us how to get the audio working? It’s a ryzen 7 box with aorus motherboard. Thanks
