Anyone else see this video in their recommended right after Legends Z-A was revealed?

Kalos honestly has the coolest architecture of the Franchise. The Kalos league? The Gyms? The Towns? They're all so full of life, they have so much personality and charm.

X&Y's story is so messy and yet I always get a little emotional when the Floette returns to AZ. It's kinda silly but I think whoever the cutscene director was really nailed the tone of that reunion, even if you have to let yourself forget about the shoddy storytelling up to that point to really let it sink in.

Not remembering anything about Santalune Forest is hilarious considering it's the exact same as Viridian Forest lol

i think gen 6 was more about the transition to 3d/the post-game experience. it got a lot of people into the series, and with all of the new shiny-hunting/online features, it honestly was a p good experience at the time

I have a soft spot for x and y. That's when I got back into Pokemon. It also came out the year I got married, so it was a good time in my life.

It’s a shame X&Y never got a follow up game. With that, X&Y would have felt a lot more complete. Great video, keep it up 👍🏻

I won’t act like X and Y is the best of the Pokémon series, but I do wish more people recognize that this game was a huge step away from the pixel style. I’m sure most of this game was experimental even for the Pokémon Company. There’s a lot of little things you can do that you couldn’t do in other games like rollerskating, customizing your character, customizable Pokémon (Furfrou mostly), full friend group (instead of 1-2 rivals), mega evolution, and probably more things I can’t remember at this moment. I think the saddest thing about this game is that Pokémon Z was scrapped cause it probably would have made the game feel complete.

This game *really* needed a third version. XY feel so incomplete; Pokemon Z would have fixed that. Instead we got a Zygarde collection sidequest in Sun/Moon.

Well this playthrough just became a whole lot more relevant.

The name of the mega evolution guru is Gurkinn! Though the name wasn't really mentioned in the games besides by like one NPC. Olympia should've been the eighth gym. Even the anime treated her as a far more important character than Wulfric. And yes, the design of the Gyms in this game is insane, they absolutely took full advantage of the 3D effect. I mean, the surprise of walking to the middle of what looks like a normal building in the Anistar Gym and seeing it all disappear as it turns into a sphere surrounded by a night sky with different galaxies and constellations was mind-blowing. Not to mention the stunning Coumarine Gym and the fact the first ever Fairy gym at Laverre City is a GIANT DOLLHOUSE...well played.

The buildings actually have life in them. The architecture, the soundtrack, the different Vivillon patterns, Mega evolutions, the XY games definitely deserve more love! I instantly fell in love with the entire Fennekin line, and while most of the rivals weren't interesting, I really enjoyed Shauna. The little story beat at the castle or whatever was really enjoyable to me for whatever reason. And Kalos' Pokémon League is by far the most beautiful League in the Pokémon world. Not to mention because the Z season of the XY anime was incredible. The XY anime introduced many to the franchise!

I feel like it’s easy to take for granted how groundbreaking gen 6 was but it was amazing at the time

Totally agree with you on Olympia being the better eighth gym badge. She always gave more of a fight and her gym was an amazing theme in my opinion.

If you were a sophomore in high school when Gen 6 came out then I’m about 3 years younger than you. X and Y came out when I was starting 7th grade and I loved them. They were probably my favorite games when they released. I loved strolling around on the roller skates, exploring all the buildings in the towns and cities (especially in Lumiose), finding new Pokémon, and using the new Mega Evolutions (which is still the best generational mechanic). Now, 10 years later, they’re not my favorite games anymore—not even my favorite Pokemon games. I can see their problems and shortcomings. But when I go back to them, nostalgia takes over and I still feel the wonder I had when I first played them.

3 years after X and Y released, Sun and Moon came out. By then, I would have been as old as you were when Gen 6 was new, and I was disenchanted by them. I didn’t care for a lot of the new characters, new locations, or new mechanics. I didn’t really care for Team Skull at first and I thought the lack of gym battles and traditional badges was off-putting. I finished the games once and put them away, immediately going back to my favorites from Gens 3 through 6.

I can’t say for certain whether it’s that age where Pokémon feels stale, but it is interesting that 10th grade is where I also had a falling out with the series, after being a fan for years. I did enjoy Legends Arceus and Scarlet / Violet, so I’m still a fan of the series, but there was definitely a lull in my enjoyment from 2016 to 2021

Yup in the anime, Grant indeed had a Tyrunt, but his other Pokémon was Onix, which he used in his battle against Viola at the Battle Chateau. Thus, Ash knew what he was in for ahead of time when he saw Grant's Rock Tomb strategy. Ash came up with an idea to defeat Onix in the episode An Undersea Place to Call Home, an episode that was postponed due to the sinking of the MV Sewol ferry in South Korea in April 2014, as the episode was about seeing a ship that ended up at the bottom of the ocean called the SS Cussler. In the episode, Ash noticed Froakie make an incredible leap while carrying Skrelp in order to escape from a whirlpool. Thus, Froakie was key to defeating Onix in Climbing the Walls.

And yes, the Snorlax and Parfum Palace bit was in the anime too, but they approached it differently. Instead of on a bridge, Snorlax was sleeping in the middle of town and the gang learned that every year when the town does a harvest, Snorlax comes to eat, the town thus gets their fields plowed in the process, and they celebrate with a festival to thank him. Lord Shabboneau usually has the flute, but it was revealed Princess Allie of Parfum Palace took it. So they went to the palace, she challenges Ash to a battle, but despite Ash winning, she still refused to give the flute...until she let them have it on the condition of leaving Clemont with her. Of course, Clemont would end up escaping in the end, building a bot that would end up exploding.

Pokemon-wise, X is actually one my favorites. There were some incredible new Pokemon available in the Kalos region. A part of it was probably the addition of the fairy type, which quickly became my favorite. The starters are all great too, which is a nice change from Unova (I know a lot of people are only fans of Froakie, but I actually love them all.

The game is definitely too easy, but it's still a fun experience, and the graphics are pretty good and despite having too many "friends" in this game, I think they did a good job of not spending too much time on explanations and cut scenes. Can't say the same about the Alola games.

I was worried you wouldn't show that final and very special battle against AZ. But I'm so glad you did. Pokemon X and Y came out when I was in 8th grade, over 10 years ago, and even though I've never played it myself, I've always enjoyed watching others play through it. I had a friend that absolutely struggled with catching Mewtwo in the post game quests, but I knew how rewarding it must've felt when he finally did catch it. I feel like Pokemon X and Y are two of the most meaningful to me in that regard. Good job, I'm happy you got to play it once again! :)

Gen 6 was very memorable for me. The tv show was revitalized, PSS letting you trade and battle from the touch screen, the first titles with a worldwide launch, mega evolutions and Symphonic Evolutions. All that brought the fans closer than ever before, even bringing back fans that haven’t touched the games since the GameBoy days. Battling with random people in the school cafeteria with StreetPass was so much fun 😭

Lysandre really just said "I've come to make an announcement."

It's a thing from the Sonic fandub.

Great video, it’s a great feeling to run back through those ‘childhood’ games, even if sometimes they don’t exactly hit the same heights maybe they once did.

I subscribed! Great channel. Super underrated!
