Some of you may be wondering, "Why is Chief afrsid of the Flood instead of Brutes seeing as what they can do?". Well, as you know, Chief absolutely TREASURES the lives of his comrades. For him, it's bad enough seeing his allies getting killed in combat, but it's worse when he has to see his friends and what was once known as his soldiers as a scrambled mass of guts and ripped flesh. It very much does scare him knowing that they could've died normally in battle, but instead, they were disgraced by this parasite.

Bruts might be kinda dumb but they are very powerful warriors and are smart when it comes to ground combat a smart brut is basically like a demigod of strength and power

Master did not first encounter a brute in First Strike which takes place in 2552, the earliest example that I know was in Silent Storm which takes place in 2526, although the Spartans reaction to the brutes didn’t seem to surprise them so I’m guessing they must have encountered them earlier at some point.

This is kinda old lore thats been retconed (as in this encounter was not his first fight with brutes). I think the Chiefs new canon first encounter with Brutes was on Biko againts Bloodstar (Spec ops) Brutes trying to capture a downed prowler. From the Silent storm novel. Fun fact this was very early in John's career, when he was 15/16 years old.
