The 'Strawman', Magna Carta, Common Law, and More!

We see some terrible "advice" going around online - from removing your smart meter to get "Free electricity", becoming a "straw man" to avoid paying debts, to claiming "common law jurisdiction" or "standing under maritime law/Magna Carta" to pretend the law doesn't apply to you. Here is what you NEED to know when you see those videos.

I live in the States and had an interesting run-in with our gas company. Here, we are responsible for anything inside the house, they are responsible for outside. I got a bill saying we owed them over $300 for gas used because our meter had been broken for 2 YEARS. Now, they had been paid around $80 a month all that time for "maintenance", and our bill said they had actually read the meter all that time, so I told them I'd give them their $300 if they gave us back around $2, 000 for not actually maintaining what they had been paid for (I know there are pipes and lines, etc...but hopefully you get the point). My husband is disabled so we get assistance with the bill, so I called our Senator's office and made the same arguement to them - they called the gas company too. The gas company said, "Sorry, our mistake." and ran away in a hurry. Thinking logically comes in REALLY handy sometimes.

I am a qualified, licensed and experienced electrical contractor and I would happily remove the meter for travel costs and a minimal fee.

You cannot go to jail for not paying a parking fine he is trying to fear monger you and make you feel guilty for getting remedy. Ignore this. All are equal in the eyes of the law you have every right to defend your claim. Dont concern yourself with the business of others.

I might try and watch this but I can tell from the description that BBB has got the terms of reference wrong to begin with. No common law buff would want to "become a straw man". The strawman is what they use to describe their "legal fiction" which is basically the paperwork version of yourself as defined by various official documents starting with your birth certificate. Likewise no common law buff would want to "stand under maritime law". They consider the modern legal system to be based on late medieval maritime law which was optimised for corporations to do trade. As such they prefer to "stand under" common law or the "law of the land" (as opposed to the maritime "law of the sea"). They perceive the common law of the land to be the ancient and just way of doing things. I don't think they see Magna Carta as part of maritime law so I am not sure why the description indicates they are an alternative as in Maritime Law/Magna Carta.
I would like to see a well founded critique of the "common law movement" but I doubt this is it as it misrepresents their claims from the outset.

You don't always know who the electricity supplier is. The electricity supply is not the same as the electricity contract. The electricity supply is connected to a building and the electricity contract is connected to a person. If you take over a building, you don't take over the electricity account, but the supply is already there. So, when the lights come on, which companie's electricity are you using ?

You get Barristers that defend criminals, so I guess there are qualified electricians who will remove meters from properties :)

Interestingly, those who bill the consumer do not actully supply the electricity despite them saying they are "suppliers". They are private limited companies who only buy the electricity once they have you as a customer and add on their operational costs to the "retail" price they charge having paid the actual supplier the wholesale price.

The point of MAgna Carta and British "law" was to set down in writing, rules to be enforced that would prevent the peasant using their vastly superior numbers to take the wealth from the wealthy. Law is nothing to do with morality and everything to do with protecting entrenched wealth and privilege. If law had anythng at all to do with morality fines would be a % of net worth rather than an arbitrary amount to be budgeted for.

Also, we are supposed to be governed and policed by CONSENT, representing a WILL of the people. When does that happen ? More like lied to, coerced, manipulated, bullied and subjugated. Far closer to reality than giverned by consent

Question should be, why the hell is law so complicated in the first place....
Surely it all stems from
Do unto others as you would have done to you .... ie no Harm, killing or defraud others...

I'd personally say, it's all written whereby EVERY SINGLE MAN WOMAN OR CHILD IS BREAKING A LAW OF SOME KIND because they are literally millions of them for a simple starting point.

Now if it takes a lawyer or solicitor or barrister to know whether what you jabs done is lawful or not .... then I'd say those LAWS are not fit for purpose as at any point you as a person could be taken for a ride and know no different..

Not to mention the legalese and real world words means being different.

In short- Law is just as corrupt as
Financial system
Medical system
Governmental systems
Education system

Again another pillar of society that's been utterly corrupted over time ...

Electricity and telephone services used to be a service fee only, but now we have a structure where our services are corporate for profit suppliers who raise prices regularly to where those in need of them are kept poor through extortion. This is entirely legal BUT not respectable. Not only this, but magistrates courts and police forces as well as councils are also incorporated for profit. No one to make the profit from but you. Expect a barrage of criminalising procedures on you to extract money in the form of cannot park here, cannot stand here, cannot walk your dog here, cannot use this park or walk through it, cannot use this once free road etc.

Legal rulings are empowered by civil law for the cessation of harm or to provide remedy to stop harm. When legal rulings are causing harm it's not only unlawful it is dispicable and our representatives should be doing everything in their power not to let this happen

Magna Carta (1215) the Bill of Rights and Scottish Claim of Right (both 1689) Scottish Claim of Right 1689 and the Treaty of Union (1706, enacted by both the English and Scottish parliaments), as well as the acts affecting union with Ireland. It is Crucial to remember the Crowns were unified in 1603, i.e the Monarchs of England and Scotland. Scottish Act of Union 1706 English Act of Union 1707 The Petition of Right 1628 The Declaration of Rights 1688 * Formal Contract The Crown and Parliament Recognition Act 1688. The Bill of Rights 1688/9 The Coronation Oath Act 1688
