If you have diabetes and you've tried Intermittent Fasting, what has been your greatest challenge? Have you been able to stop or decrease your medications and/or insulin?

Great Advice... I am a Type 2 Diabetic who ignored my Diabetes for 15 years... killing it with Keto and IF... Reduced my HBA1c from 12.5 to 5.8... whilst reducing my Diabetic Medication by between 50-100% :)

Thanks for this! My life has been transformed by this sort of information. I am turning 65 and for the past 2 years I have combined LOW CARB (Keto) with Intermittent Fasting, lost 82 lbs., came off ALL MEDICATIONS (2 for hypertension, one for high cholesterol and gave up my CPAP for sleep apnea). If I call my doctor and try for an appointment, it's usually a month or so to get in.
There is no keeping in touch with any doctor I know of.

I’m new to this intermittent fasting and I’ve been doing 14/10 fasting for a week. My question is, would this be considered intermittent fasting or not really? I did lose 5 kgs as a result of it… I know a bit much for a week; but I’ve told my doctor about it and he saw no harm in it. It also lowered my blood glucose levels. So far I’m ok with the 14/10 fast, however I want to move into the 16/8 fast but I’m not sure how well I will do it? I just don’t know how many fab diets I’ve tried over the years just to gain whatever I lost all back again. I like the intermittent fasting because I read how our body rejuvenates cells and DNA… this caught my attention more than anything.

I'm not a diabetic but a pre diabetic!! I came to know that diabetic patients must not fast any longer than 24 hours because of the risk of hypoglycemia as well as diabetic ketoacidosis
My fasting glucose is 109 mg/dL and in hba1c the three months estimated average glucose is 114.2 mg/dL what should I do to get these prediabetic levels back to normal range because I don't want to become a diabetic

I am a type 2 diabetic just taking metformin. I notice when I don't eat for 5 or 6 hours I get shaky, lightheaded and anxious. But my sugars are never considered critically low. They usually are between 90 to 105 when this happens. My question is...when I'm sleeping does this happen and I just don't notice it because I'm in a deep sleep. Because after I wake up I can go quite a long time before I even want to eat. But once I do eat I can't go more than 5 hours without feeling like crap. Thank you.

I just did 36 water fast and ate a keto meal but my glucose level is at 72mg/dl. So I ate a little bit of carbs to make sure it doesn't go into hypoglycemia. I had a 6.8 A1c and reduced it to 5.9 with keto diet but after that I have plateud.

My doctor got angry when I told him I was fasting. The only objection he could come up with was hypoglycemia. I told him I didn't take meds when I wasn't eating, instructions on the meds say take with food and if I'm not eating there's no sense to take them until I do.

What about alternate day fasting along with intermittent fasting? If I go 24 hours without eating as a type 2 diabetic is that ok? I only take metformin and my A1c is currently a 6.4.

There is too much comment about doctors. Doing a fast is you taking charge of your diabetes - so why ask a doctor who may already be increasing your diabetic meds incorrectly.

Good day Doc! I'm from Philippines. Im into Intermittent Fasting "TMAD" Twice Meal A Day 16:8 Method for several months. Im TYPE 2 Dietetic for 22 years and on medication prescribed by my doctor. I'm a paranoid Prediabetic. My last blood test at doc showed 100. He said anything 100-125 is prediabetic. I bought a meter to be safe and am doing lower carb. (not counting though) Since I'm only prediabetic I'm trying to go hard by limiting carbs. My doc did say my BP is healthy.

My heart races in the morning sometimes so I eat a potassium I heard.

Being prediabetic what other things can I do to help? How often should I do a 24 hrs fast WITHOUT any water/unsweetened tea?
