Many forget that the Queen of Thorns was born Olenna of House Redwyne and married into House Tyrell. She has no sentimentality toward House Tyrell's heraldry and traditions, hence why she so casually mocks her family crest and motto. She knows the people of the Reach are spoiled and soft compared to Northmen and Ironborn. The Tyrells know their power resides not in their swords and shields, but in their crops and coffers, and that knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses is what makes them such good players of The Game of Thrones.

This is one of THE BEST interactions in the entire series. Starting with “look, a spider in the garden, ” up to “a question for the philosophers.” I absolutely LOVE IT. Brilliant writing and even more of a brilliant performance by them both. Olenna Tyrell needs her own show. Shoot, the rise of House Tyrell would be an amazing watch. Featuring the life of Olenna. From the time we meet her to the time we say our goodbyes she is positively one of the best characters of the whole series. Compassionate, ruthless and practical. She knew how to play the game of thrones.
