In this engaging lecture, Dr. Taimur Rahman delves into Friedrich Engels' groundbreaking work, Dialectics of Nature. Dr. Rahman explains how Engels challenged the rigid, metaphysical view of a static world by examining the scientific discoveries of the 19th century, which revealed nature as a dynamic, interconnected process of constant change and development. Dr. Rahman explores how Engels applied dialectical materialism to natural sciences, reshaping the understanding of evolution, motion, and the transformation of matter. This lecture is a must-watch for anyone interested in Marxist philosophy, the history of science, and the revolutionary ways dialectics illuminate the laws governing both nature and society.

I’m particularly drawn to Engels in my study of Marxism. Ever since the beginning, his writing is very enthralling. One of the first books I read on Marxist theory was his study of the working classes in England. He seems very ‘modern’ to me. Like, he was a man out of time. Marx is a genius, but I feel like Engels understood how to ‘speak’ to the working class. This lecture is great, it really breaks down the history in a succinct way, makes me miss grad class! Maybe it’s a sign to sign up again! ha

Benevolence and malevolence coexisted at the beginning of time and divine design. Contradiction was not to be eliminated but solved like in thesis-antithesis and synthesis.
