The mind Flayer is the main villain. Dustin has not been wrong about his theories this entire show, so why does everyone doubt him now? All we saw was Henry put his hand in the air and “shape” and already existing entity. It was never stated that Vecna “created” the mind flayer nor did vecna ever admit that. I have a strong feeling the Mind Flayer is behind it all and has been using Vecna to enter the right side up dimension.

This theory is strengthened in the ST The First Shadow stageplay where a young Henry Creel only gets his powers when disappearing to another dimension, & commits his most evil crimes under the influence of the Mindflayer....with the murder of his mom & sister under the Mindflayers' influence.

Vecna didn’t create the mind flyer. He just gave him his spider form. But the mind flyer was already there in his cloud form.

I always thought thought of the “Mind-flayer” as being reminiscent of the Lovecraftian Outer Goddess, Shub-Niggurath (aka: She Of A Thousand Young).

A villain who is an inter dimension, eldritch, lovecraftian type entity who is beyond human comprehension, whose goal is to subjugate and assimilate all living matter in the multiverse is way more interesting to me than a human with powers who wants to kill all humans and whose motivation boils solely down to “we live in a society”. Plus the mindflayer had more Ws against El. possessed billy was able to beat el at her most powerful with pure physical strength alone until she got help. He also managed to take her powers and had her ducking for cover the entire time and this two feats were accomplished by a small piece of the mindflayer, a speck compared to his true form. Vecna on the other hand, fought El 3 times, lost twice. The first time being against the weakest version of el. Vecna also seems to be less physically durable than a demogorgon and far less durable than the flayed creature. A speck of the mindflayer was able to cause more damage in season 3 than all of vecna in season 4, im talking kill count and personal feats, opening the gates doesn’t count as a feat for vecna here. Basically, i dont know how tf the mind flayer is not the main villain here.

I had the Vecna is Elevens father theory too. They allude to it with the huge Star Wars reference where he essentially does the Darth Vader "Join me, we can rule together". With that said, I don't think he's going to be El's father. Too convoluted. HOWEVER, it IS possible (feel free to use this, but I want credit).. remember when Sullivan's military goons were tearing up Owens house? Owens wife said "Why are you touching that" of something along those lines, "those are PETER'S papers". And what was Henry called in the lab? PETER Ballard. So if this theory is true, Owens probably tried to adopt Henry before sending him back to the lab after realizing he couldn't control/change him. Borys is definitely not the big bag, I don't play DnD but I've seen people say that character was created in the 90s. People are saying it's Tiamat or something?

Anyway, enjoy my explanation for how Henry can be El's father since it's the ONLY possible explanation. Again, feel free to use it, it's brilliant just like me, but give me credit.

Yeah I think the mind flayer is just making vecna think he’s in control, I actually think the mind flayer had a connection to Henry creel when he was a kid. I think he gave him visions like he did to will which is why he drew out the mind flayer like will did when the mind flayer would give him visions.

The London stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow further leans into this theory. It very much implies or pretty much confirms from my personal understanding that the Mind Flayer is influencing/manipulating Henry. It makes sense because the Mind Flayer is inspired by Eldritch horror, a god like being beyond all understanding. I always thought it was odd that the Mind Flayer took a bit of a back seat after how prevalent it was in S2. But the play for me has pretty much confirmed that the Mind Flayer is the true big bad behind everything, using Henry/Vecna to his own whim.

What if the mind flayer and Boris are two different things? Dustin just hasn’t come to the conclusion of Boris yet. I don’t get why they have to be the same creature, and instead, Boris “GAVE” the mind flayer to Vecna when he traversed to his world so that ended a big, scary weapon to attack the world with. But, in the end, Boris is his own entity, and he is the “big bad.” Who knows. We’ve had HUGE hiatus at this point

Stranger Things is like The Matrix.
The Mind Flayer is the sentient A.I., Vecna is Agent Smith, and 11 is Neo.
The Mind Flayer will come to a truce with 11, aligning their powers to fight against Vecna (since Vecna has become too powerful during his recent attempt to banish 11.)
This would make for the ultimate showdown...

I really hope so smh. I’d hate for vecna to be the main villain of the series when in reality we have this mysterious love craftion creature that’s powerful and terrifying. Vecna simply being a human with powers who’s a psychopath doesn’t really sit well with me. It’s such a let down and such a basic villain archetype. Takes all the creativity and build up away from the show

I mean I just saw the play and this was my exact takeaway. The mind flayer is the one in control.
