This lecture was held on the campus of Grove City College on September 30, 2024. Over 100 people joined us as we welcomed First Things editor, R.R. Reno.
A consensus in favor of dynamism, change, and openness has dominated the West since the end of World War II. It disparaged the conservative commitment to continuity and permanence. But the winds of change are blowing. Liberal ascendancy has produced a liquid world. Rising populism indicates a growing desire for the restoration of stable and solid foundations. Priority is shifting away from liberalism’s priorities and toward conservative goals. The West hungers for permanent things, and this hunger will reshape our political culture in the coming decades.
About: R.R. Reno is the editor and executive director of First Things magazine. He earned his PhD at Yale and was a professor of theology and ethics at Creighton University for twenty years before assuming the editor’s desk at First Things in 2010. He primarily writes on religion, faith, and Christians’ participation in public life. He has written many books including Return of the Strong Gods (2019)and The End of Interpretation (2022). He has written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Claremont Review of Books, Foreign Affairs, and more.
