The Doors channel is the official YouTube home of classic Doors live performances, The Doors albums, and contemporary performances and content honoring The Doors featuring John Densmore and Robby Krieger.

With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture.

The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger – a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.

Jim always had his eyes closed when performing, this tells me he tapped into a different world while performing something beyond us

I saw the Doors perform this at Madison Square Garden in 1969. Morrison climbed atop some speakers for the firing squad routine, if I remember correctly, and when shot, plunged to the stage without moving his limbs to break his fall. Quite a thud. And he lie there. And he lied there. The other Doors looked at each other and he lied there. Silence. The audience was holding it's breath not knowing what was going on, and the other Doors looked concerned. Finally they started to play and Morrison leapt up shouting into the microphone. Quite a show, his charisma and control over the audience with his timing and theatrics made a lasting impression on the then 16 year old me and a Doors fan for life.

I find it ironic that today’s society criticize our music from the 1960s& 1970’s. With all the wars and crap going on in the world today our music is just as relevant now as it was then.

I often wonder if the audience realised at the time that we'd still be watching in awe 50 years later???
