Seafoam Boat Fuel Treatment?

I started using SeaFoam fuel treatment aboard our boat last month and wanted to hear what you had to say about the product. If you've used in on your boat, let me know what, if you found any improvements to performance, starting or otherwise.

For reference, our vessel is a 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer (links to playlist below), powered by twin 454 cubic inch / 7.4 litre Mercruiser Bluewater engines (fuel injected + closed cooling).

I've used Seafoam in my boats for years and never had a problem . I had to use my father-inlaw's boat once and it would run like crap at higher rpms intermittently and found water in the fuel so I stoped at a marina and bought 3 cans of seafoam and after a few minutes it cleared up and ran perfect .

Used for years... I have the joy of operating an 88 Cobalt Condesa w/454 B1... cleans out and prevents any gumming. Only product I use for laying up my boat. Never had any problems.

Our dealer taught us to use Sea Foam as a fuel additive anytime we bought gas that might have ethanol in it. We have followed that advice, as well as using it as a preservative/stabilizer in both our boat (5.7 mercruiser) and 90 Jeep Wrangler. Excellent results. Did exactly what we asked it to.

I have used Seafoam on both my boats and everything else with a spark plug!!!! Every spring I would turn the key and she started up like it been running 10 minutes ago. Now that I am not in a boat anymore I will use this on my Spyder for the off season. Great product, has never let me down.

The mechanic that used to work on my dad's Chris Craft 40 years ago always used seafoam. For the past 20 years I've been using seafoam in all of my boats for storage never had a problem with varnishing or fuel breakdown over the winter storage period.

I was given Seafoam in the spring time never used it. I purchased more Seafoam and still haven't used it. After reading your comments I believe I'm going to start using my seafoam. Thanks Capitan Paul and First Mate Anchor Girl. Happy Boating ( What's left ) and Cheers !!***.

I’ve begun using BG products in my boats. I know this video is old and you may be using something different or not anything at all, but BG is worth a look if you can get them in Canada. I do the Bg oil service and the dynamic when necessary. Cheers!

I have a 1999 formula with twin 350 mags with 600 hrs, using Seafoam for the first time added to the fuel only for stabilizer. I'm curious about adding it to the oil before I change it. took the boat out for about 20 min run at 3200 rpm to get a good mixture thru the fuel system. stopped for lunch and returned back, about 1/2 back ran at WOT, wow the engines were singing! I'm liking this stuff.. keep you posted on the oil treatment change

My mechanic/friend swears by SeaFoam!! For everything, plus adds StarBrite Fuel treatment. The Seafoam stabilizes the fuel and does some great cleaning. The StarBrite helps to clean and more importantly lube. Good call Paul!!!

We regularly run seafoam in all of our equipment at an once a gallon. When running seasonal equipment like Aerators and snowblowers I add an extra shot in already treated fuel and top off tank full to keep condensation to a minimum. Turn off fuel and run until enough cuts off then add a splash into empty carburetor. I've been doing this for well over 10 years and can't say that I've ever had a problem. Oh and of course I do the same thing on my boat 20' maxim IO JMO.

Sea Foam has a good rep. I did not know it was also a stabilizer. There are some good experiment videos on YouTube comparing brands. Sea Foam actually did work quite well on reducing carbon build up.

I had a boat back in the mid 80's that had Volvo Penta 260's. Just a 350 Chevy with a Rochester Products 4 barrel carb. Great engines. I used to winterize them using Marvin's Mystery Oil to fog the engines and originally just "Dry Gas" additive to the fuel tanks for winter.

I used to use a lead octane additive to the fuel when I could no longer get leaded gas at the fuel docks. Boy that got pricey. I found out from Volvo that I could run the unleaded with no issue. They were right but I did stay with premium octane.

That boat had a gas tank that no mater what I did, would get water condensation in it over the winter. She would stall out when I put the bow up. I would have to clean the water fuel line filter 3 times and then she would be good for the rest of the year. Actually the dry gas (basically ethanol) would mix with the water and help clear the system out.

I used that "Sta-bil 360" $$$ in my new car. Besides a stabilizer, it is supposed to keep your fuel system from rusting from the inside caused by ethanol? Does that even make sense?

Just thought it was an interesting story and wondered if anyone else had a gas tank issue with water.

Best Wishes

I’ve used Sea Foam on all my yard equipment, helps it run better I believe. I have ran Sea Foam in my Korean Kruiser, and I actually got 1-2mpg better driving around the city and the highway. I say it’s worth it!

How did the Seafoam work out for you, and does it work with Diesel Engines ? I use to use it back in the day on my old daily beater, to go back and forth to work. Seafoam probably gave that car an extra year or two of life ... lol

I too used Seafoam for the first time this year but only in my tractor and 2 stroke gear, not the boat. Interested in hearing what other boaters have to say about it worth it? Marina serves up Valv-Tech treated gas so I'm not sure there would be an additional advantage with

Hours don’t mean shit on an engine a lot of people think it does proper maintenance is everything to these engines as you know, using good oil‘s changing spark plugs caps and rotors are very very important and keeping a open ear for problems occurring I’m not a big believer in C form there is no such thing as a mechanic In a can! I’m not saying it’s not a bad product it’s the fact of everybody says it’s a wonderful product when I’ve been doing my job for over 29 years remember Paul you have big blocks 454 is very crucial the timing A lot of people overlook this don’t think it’s a big deal every big block that I have on my customer service recommendation timing is checked year for year I think you’ll be OK with this product everybody has their own opinion and is open to it but I build these things for a living and I I’ve seen additives also do damage myself I’m not a fan of product but I do believe in star Tron and has been proven I don’t think the seafoam Rupp likes me very much ideal supply brought them in and I told him straight blank I was not interested in our product but that’s just me I’m old and oldschool mechanic I’m set in my ways and that’s it I’m always open to suggestions but went works I don’t change it but that’s just me Cheers for now
