This is how I got over smoking cigarettes. I'd tried to quit for years. Told plenty of people countless times, "Oh, I'm quitting smoking." Kept starting up again.
What made me stop? Stop talking about it in the present tense. It wasn't "I'm quitting smoking" anymore; it was "I've quit smoking."

He is definitely on point with older style games still doing really well. Even if we don't look at the MMO aspect retro style games still thrive in today's market due to the sheer fact that some of those old styles/control schemes still feel fun to play.

Absolutely key info there.
If you act like you're not serious about going down a path and you make a most....you will likely stop after that first "failure".
But if you own your goals and all that comes with...you will likely only stop when you achieve your goals and it the achievement alone means nothing to you.
Like board breaking in some martial arts, if you hold back you will achieve nothing and suffer badly....but if you train with the intent of going beyond that first goal, you can break those boards without fear of injury simply because you didn't cheat yourself out of success
