Expunged or Sealed Records and Security Clearances

The state of Virginia may be making it easier for individuals to seal or expunge criminal records tied to several categories of misdemeanor offenses. The question many security clearance holders ask is if a record has been sealed or expunged, does it still need to be listed on the SF-86? The answer is, 'yes!' Sealed and expunged records still need to be listed if they fall within the scope of questions on the SF-86. (If the question asks, 'have you ever been arrested' - it doesn't matter if the matter was expunged or if it doesn't appear on your record).

What if the expungement was a felony more than 19 years ago and expunged 17 years ago? Keep in mind I work for a government agency and the check will be done through the county sheriff. Will the expungement or arrest still show?
