Why I Chose A Plastic Cutting Board Over Wood

I decided to purchase a new cutting board for my wife to use. I thought long and hard on whether to stay with a wood cutting board or to purchase a plastic one. I ended up purchasing a plastic one and in this video, I'll explain the reasons.

The problem with your logic is after a while of use on the plastic board it needs higher temps to sufficient kill the bacteria and pathogens that get stuck in the marks left by the knives. Where as wood tends to be antimicrobial naturally, it draws out the moisture from anything left on the board causing it to die

Just a simple question, is plastic edible? as the plastic board wears off, the plastic goes to you ingredients and into your stomach. Wood is natural and has natural anti bacteria in it.

Plastic cutting board is hazardous.. the small particles of plastic go into the body along with the chopped wood. How can this be safe in any way!!

There is a huge downside to plastic cutting boards. Those marks the tables start to show off after some time? That's plastic that was removed from the table. And it ends up on your organism. That's very very VERY unhealthy to have inside you. And it doesn't leave your body easily

I use multiple restaurant grade plastic color coded boards to avoid cross contamination, they don’t stain clean up is a breeze and they look really cool 😎 hidden in the cabinet

bruh stop eating microplastics. who cares if there's bacteria. You're gonna cook your food anyway lol. Besides, just wash your cutting board.

Maintaining a wood board is not as labor intensive as you make it sound. It’s so simple.

A wooden board isn't hard to clean, & they don't really need oil unless you're being fussy about their appearance (I've used 2 basic wooden boards for 20 years & haven't ever oiled them, & they work as well today as when I first got them). The advantage stated here of plastic boards for cleaning is wrong, as they stain easily. Also, a major drawback with plastic is that they score easily with knife cuts, releasing micro-plastic particles into the food, which you want to avoid consuming, & the micro-grooves cut into the plastic provide recesses for bacteria, which I doubt hot soapy water is enough to wholly remove. I read a consumer hygiene test report into this subject a while back which came back conclusively in favour of wooden boards compared to plastic. Wooden boards are easier to clean and more hygienic as they don't score from blades. To remove pungent scents from them after use, you just hand scrub in a sink with hot soapy water, rinse off, sprinkle some salt over them & scrub it in, & then rinse that off on each side with 1/2 a kettle of boiling water, & stand them in a dish rack, they should be dry within 12 hours ready for use again. They are a better surface to prepare food on in every way.

Lol, basically used the same thought process when choosing to buy a nonstick pan instead of cast iron/carbon steel pan for my mom.

Why is getting it "so thick" important? Why a full inch? Is it just for shape?

Have you have any experience with rubber boards? I been looking at the ones sushi chefs are using but they are as pricey as high end end grain wood boards.

If you want name brand kitchen gear on the cheap I would check out Homegoods, Marshalls or TJMaxx. You can find a lot of kitchen equipment for half the price of Amazon or any of the big box stores. Picked up a plastic board 1 in. thick similar to yours for only $10.

You didnt get the board because it was the best. You got it because you love her. Very nice.

Thanks for the video. I'm looking into buying a plastic cutting board to use as a pastry board for rolling out dough, cookies etc. I like it being low maintenance and think it would be a better non-stick surface for the dough. What do you think, since you seem to know a lot about cutting boards?

As somebody who has gone through the training to be a chef plastic cutting boards are the way they go what do ones can hold on to a whole lot of harmful things that are unsafe if you don't take care of them properly and I would rather not risk it for the biscuit and buy a plastic cutting board use it for 2 years and throw it away and buy a new one to be honest
