I'm so glad that everyone but me can easily program these radios. I've got three, and never used either one due to the fact that I can't program them.

You can also set each band vfo to a 2m offset of 600 and the other vfo to a 5 mhz offset. This makes it easier for keypad programming. I usealley use the top one for 2m and bottom vfo for uhf

Reading the manual helps too. Takes longer programming, sure. It will help in you understanding the set.

One can also scan to find CTCS codes, DCS codes, and programme that code into the frequency with ease.

I discovered that little reverse feature a couple of years ago. I saw it on the radios and thought surely it was something useful to someone if it was given a one button shortcut on the keypad. Sure enough it has a neat use.

Edit: this actually helped me hear the NOAA frequency, I couldn't get it to work to save my life. Hoping this helps me find other frequency

The uv5r will also scan ctss tones but it times out if theres no transmission forcing you back into the menu to try again.

You can send CW on that radio. You can lots with it. I think you even use x band repeater, I think.

That's how you program them. Otherwise you would need to enter the transmitting memory seperately which is a pain
