We Tried Every INSTANT CAMERA for 30 Days Here's What Happened

NOTE: We do not reivew the "Hybrid" instant cameras. These do not use film; they are digital cameras with built-in printers. We have tested them and the image quality sucks.

Tony & Chelsea DO like the Fujifilm Instax film, which comes in three sizes. First, pick the size of film (and aspect ratio of the photo) that you like. Then, select the camera model that suits your needs within that film size.

The most popular film size is the smallest: the Fujifilm Instax Mini Film. The cameras are reasonably sized (unlike the bigger film which requires huge cameras). But, the pictures are SO SMALL. We suggest the Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 or Mini 40 for casual shooters; they're the same camera, either in a bubbly colorful body or a square black body, depending on your aesthetics. For advanced photogarphers who want creative and manual controls, try the Fujfiilm Instax Mini 99 or Lomo'Instant Automat cameras.

We liked the Fujifilm Instax Square film sizes the best. The cameras are a little big, but still a reasonable size. The pictures are much larger than the Instax Mini and more reminiscent of the Polaroid film we're all nostalgic for. There's really only two Instax Square cameras: the fully automatic SQ1 and the strange but creative Lomo'Instant Square.

If you want the biggest possible film, get a Instax Wide camera. The cameras are outrageously large, but not too heavy. The pictures are big, but very wide and short, and best used horizontally rather than vertically. There's really only two Instax Wide cameras: the fully automatic Fujifilm Wide 400 and the creative Lomo'Instant Wide.

They stopped selling it but the Fujifilm Instax SQ6 is my favourite - you can still find it on places like Amazon. It's the SQ1 with more features, more control, ability to do a timer, turn off flash, double exposure and all sorts. It's the perfect Instant Camera - don't know why they stopped selling it.

No mention of lack of two card biased?

How in the world did you not review the insta mini evo in this video? Having the lcd on the back and choice to print which one you want seems like the ultimate pick.

May I suggest you guys also test and find the best portable instant film/instant printers. I have the Fuji Instax wide printer myself...

no Fujifilm Evo Mini? Combining digital storage and printing saves a lot of money. I have quite enjoyed using mines at weddings etc, but has now been stolen by my daughter at uni

I recently swapped my Polaroid for an Instax square and I'm so much happier with it. The results are much better and the film is cheaper. What I like about the Polaroid is the size of the photo. It's a bit larger than instax square, but quality wise the Fuji wins.

Sorry but I’ve taken some great photos with my Polaroid cameras. You guys aren’t using enough light, it needs lots more than Fuji as the ISO is lower. Maybe you should’ve put up the exposure compensation too.

First camera I ever experienced as a child was a one with a fold out bellows like that instant camera. My dad got it when he served in Japan during the Korean War.

I wish instax wide cameras had pro/prosumers models. Mint and Lomography make a couple but have major pros & cons

I own a LEICA SOFORT with mini format film. The camera works fine and looks not goofy However I use it only for fun. The quality of images is ok, but not overwhelming.

I would've liked to see your opinions on the Mint Instax cameras. I have the TL70+ and while it is wildly expensive for an Instax camera - it really is quite the head turner! The way it prints out the film seems like magic to people when it first happens too cause it's not obvious as to where the film is gonna come out. I think it being a twin lens reflex makes it a really fun experience too. It reignited interest in photography for me over this summer when I felt I had lost all interest. It isn't a run and go type of camera though - each shot really requires some fine tuning. Which I think adds to the experience but can make it not as fun for people who want run n gun party photos.

I like that people don't take it so seriously as to even flip the bird in both hands

I love your videos! I've viewed many over the last 7 or 8 months. Obviously I haven't come close to seeing them all.

I have a suggestion, which you may have already done, but I haven't run across yet.

I would like to see a video of the top five Youtube channels that each of you are subscribed to, why you like them and a brief critique of each.

They don't have to be about photography. And, you might do a second one on photography channels.

Your videos are always interesting and informative. Thank you for all you do!
