I value a persons opinion when they are a proven expert in the subject matter. People love to tell you what to do when they have zero formal education and/or real life experience. VERY TRUE. It's selfless to listen to others' wisdom. Especially those who have learned from their experiences and have wisdom to impart to others. It's also a maturity thing. Those who lack maturity don't like listening to others. Those who are mature listen and weigh everything in light of truth and other similar life experience.

I try. I really struggle with advice. I love learning new things. I have truly grown to embrace being wrong. But, I am very stubborn about emotional advice. I am a sponge, no fences about facts. To most people I appear exceptionally open minded and I want to be. I work at being analytical about my knowledge. Context has advantages for me. Evolution is odd. Learning from mistakes is rough. I want to learn from others but it's hard to do.

I appreciate you definitely presenting this one. I never thought about the person not being introspective. I think most people are like a lot of the comments above. They want people who have input toward their situations or concerns to have some kind of expert credibility and often times that also coupled with as also mentioned above that they feel like they’re being told what to do when all you’re doing is given an opinion or input, because maybe you’re tired of listening to it, or you just been there and you just wanna share.
