SpaceX Starship rocket failed to reach orbit and blew up over Texas in its second launch attempt. It appears the ship did not separate from the booster when it was supposed to, NBC News reports.

The company is calling this test a success because the nearly 400-foot rocket cleared the tower.

Awesome! It's enormous and reached MaxQ with 6 engines out. Crazy strong. Failed separation unfortunately. Great first flight! I can watch this all day long

One too many engines failed, causing the rocket to become unstable. The explosion was the automatic flight termination system triggering. It didn’t blow up at random, but on purpose.

You really should have included the view of all the rocket engines lit from the bottom, and definitely the on-board view from space!!! So epic!!!

to their credit, the rocket flew pretty far with the damage it sustained leaving the launchpad. A chain of calamitous reactions later and they rocketed it flipping head over tail, and still did not break up. They really built that rocket strong.

It didn't blow up, it was blown up.
Flight termination system did it's job when control was lost.
Big difference.
