2019 Kia e-Niro Review: A No Brainer?

The Nissan Leaf has been dominating the electric car world for quite some time, and more recently Hyundai has released its popular Kona Electric. There's now a new kid on the block, say hello to the Kia e-Niro, the second electric car to come from the South Korean brand following the release of the Soul EV.

Fitted with a 64kWh battery, the e-Niro offers 282 miles of range, which is better than both of its rivals, and it has more space as well. The electric motor is able to boast 204hp, along with 395Nm of torque. That power is fed to the front wheels, and 62mph is dealt with in 7.6 seconds - top speed is 104mph.

There's just one trim level available in the UK, which is the First Edition. Priced from £32,995, standard features include 17″ wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights, black leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat, 8″ touchscreen, navigation, smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charger, JBL sound system, climate control – the list goes on. Needless to say, it’s unlikely you’ll be wanting for kit with the e-Niro.

I was amused at the amount of snacks you pack along on your trip. I was puzzled by the wildly divergent models and configurations that KIA shipped to different markets - seems an inefficient way to mass produce an auto. Perhaps they were still experimenting during the roll-out. I personally did like the regen paddle for bringing to a complete stop without resorting to the brakes, but did take several tries to master. Nice EV, and kudos to you for enduring the weather during production of the video.

I'm a little confused. A lease site I'm going to use lists the 2019 model as being 39kwh... Is that false? This review seems to indicate we only get the larger capacity 64kwh model in the UK for 2019/2020

Small correction. UK model does not get ventilated front seats, unfortunately. Not even the new MY20 car.
