🏠 Are you confused about the differences between nursing homes and assisted living? In this video, we break down the key distinctions between these two types of senior care and highlight an important factor you need to know. Join us as we explore the unique features and benefits of each option.

🔸 Assisted Living:

Care provided by certified caregivers, with exceptions in some assisted living homes.
Residents live semi-independently, receiving assistance with daily activities.
Ideal for individuals in good health who may require occasional medical care.
Promotes an active and social lifestyle within a community of peers.
Offers shared or private rooms in assisted living homes, and private apartments in assisted living centers.
🔸 Nursing Homes:

Also known as skilled nursing facilities, with care provided by trained nurses.
Provides a wide range of treatments and care for residents with ongoing medical conditions.
Residents often require 24-hour supervision and have mobility challenges.
Suitable for individuals needing extensive care, rehabilitation, or palliative care.
Accommodates shared or private rooms, resembling a hospital setting to facilitate comprehensive nursing care.
💰 One crucial difference between assisted living and nursing homes is the cost:

Median cost of assisted living in Arizona: approximately $5,000 per month.
Median cost of nursing homes in Arizona: between $8,000 and $10,000 per month, depending on the facility and room type.
🤔 Deciding on the right option:

Conduct a thorough assessment of the level of care needed for yourself or your loved one.
Opting for assisted living can save money if the level of care required is lower.
If extensive nursing care is necessary, choosing a nursing home may provide long-term cost savings.

In NJ and NYS, Assisted Living settings, there are levels of care. At the highest level, there is often little difference with LTC.

This is a year ago; I wonder what inflation has done to those prices. And what about care for dementia patients? Neither description fits for dementia. Please address this.

Care in a SNF is NOT provided by RNs! There is an RN on Record who can be called on in a crisis. More often there are LPNs who are called when a fall or injury occurs which is OFTEN due to the neglect in these facilities. LPNs administer medications, but LPNs or RNs are not providing any care! Those of us who have spent years in SNF caring for our loved ones know!
