This is a most common confusion that comes to pregnant women during delivery. It is definitely possible. There is a myth that once a caesarean, always a caesarean. Be confident that you will have a normal delivery in your second pregnancy. But yes there are so many factors that we doctors need to consider when it comes to this delivery. The normal delivery after a caesarean section we all it as a VBAC. There are so many categories that we consider that we take into consideration. We categorize this into recurrent indication and non recurrent indication. For example the first one was a breech, this time need not be and will not be an indication. Or last time it was a CPD or the space was not enough for the baby to come and this time we will have to assess. Also the interval between the deliveries and the other factors in the pregnancy, like what is the weight gain how have your pregnancy been, any other complications like hypertension, that is the blood pressure being high, gestational diabetes. These all put together we decide by the 8th month or the 9th month how this pregnancy should go, how the delivery plan should be made. Delivery plan is made with the consideration of the patient and the doctor. So a VBAC has its risks also. What are the risks? There is a small possibility of the stitch giving way. We call this as a ruptured uterus. So this has to be considered an you will be monitored throughout the labor to make sure that you have a safe delivery.
