@Anikasdiylife it's a cute bench...it looks like it could easily attach to the older model.
Instead of painting...use paste wax to make it have less friction when you slide things around

Hi Anika, you don't have to paint the table, only one layer of polyurethane is required, bcs it's a inside table 🎉

My vote is natural look. Use a little polyurethane to protect your wood finish!!! I’m in Texas, the Lone Star State!
