It's finally here. Yes the Fujifilm X-T2 has landed, sort of. I received a pre-production copy of this highly anticipated camera to review, but the firmware was not final. The camera body itself is production ready and so is the packaging, so this is as close to a real unboxing as you can get until September. Watch my real-time unboxing and first impressions of the X-T2. I also have the X-Pro2 with me for comparison. Which camera is better?

Tracking and AFC. These are the only things are stopping me from changing to FujiFilm, so I hope that these areas have been improved upon significantly.

I'm with you Take, I was hoping Fuji would surprise us with flip out prongs on the wall charger. Sony and Canon have been doing it right for ages.

I'd love to see the 4K capacity of the X-Pro2 be utilised for shutterspeed-controlled frame capture (like the Panasonic cameras). I'd imagine that heat dissipation would not be challenging for the brief spans required for this application.

Wondering Why are you wearing 2 watches?

why is everyone refusing to talk about the fact that the X-T2 now has 1/250 speed sync??? that is a great upgrade for flash photographers. the X-T1 only had 1/180x sync speed

The x-t2 is VERY nice. I would like one, but don't need it.. yet.. my X-Pro2 does very well for now, but I can see adding the X-T2 in the future down the line for other types of photography I wouldn't consider with the X-Pro2..namely due to the types of lenses I'd use, primes vs zooms.

Anyways, the one small gripe I want to say is that you won't get full functionality with the X-T2 out of the box.. meaning you won't get the best AF, 4k, EVF & Continuous Shooting performance unless you have the battery grip.. and if you want to go further, the new NP-W126S batteries.. So, count on a complete and fully functioning X-T2 for camera body alone + Grip & New Batteries to cost around $2k. Not complaining about the price, as in reality I think it should be priced more than the X-Pro2, but just the fact you can't have access to all the top features inherent in the X-T2 with just the body alone seems a slight bummer.

I still think the placement of the ael & afl buttons are awkward as well.. particularly the one closer towards the center of the camera body, the AEL?, it's a bit of a reach across and should be closer to the right to the thumb.. oh, wells.. nothing is every 100% perfect, right?

Other than that, a very cool and exciting new camera from Fuji. Looking to see how it performs in practical use.. hope the 4k isn't an issue like people seem to complain about in Sony cameras.

Thanks for the unboxing, lucky dog!

Oh, 2 things I can say I like ergonomically about the X-T2..
1) the push button ISO & Shutter dials, smart move to make toggle push button locks, they should do that in the future X cameras.

2)I found the 3 way tilting screen weird at first, why not a full 4 way, but it makes sense to keep it as simple and functional as possible while allowing for a sufficient tilt to address low & high angle portrait shooting, while keeping the landscape tilting like the old X-T1.. and I'm glad they did not use the traditional/typical fully articulating screen which requires the screen to always be swung out and increasing bulk and profile just to get low & high angle shooting in any direction. So, smart new design.. although, being that Fuji is becoming more video focused, I think they may have tried to include a 4th tilt or ability to swing the screen to the front when you need to check the video recording when you're in front of the camera yourself... btw, I don't think the portrait mode is not meant to be used while the hinge for landscape is extended, just pull the portrait orientation out by itself, it'll be close to camera body also.

.. and agree, if some way to incorporate 4k into the x-pro2, cool, but not a primary video shooter, so no big deal.. if heat is an issue, perhaps their new NPW-126S batteries are suppose to help and address heat reduction with the batteries which may in tern help the x-pro2 have 4k.. maybe..

if the AF and overall performance is as good as it's looking like, this should finally seal the deal to move DSLR users to move over to mirrorless.. not because it's mirrorless, but the cameras in the mirrorless market are just so good with many advantages.. the main thing is the AF to REALLY LOCK ON WITH CONFIDENCE AND RELIABLY AND CONSISTENTLY. I really hope the X-T2 does all that and then some.

Excellent review! Thank you! I was curious about the X-T2 and was thinking about trading my X-Pro2 for it. It's very tempting but at this moment, I have decided to stay with my X-Pro2. I just love having all the controls on one side of the camera. I find it easier to operate. The view finder is not as impressive as the X-T2 but is placed further away from the controls, thus it don't feel so crowded.
Perhaps in the future, I will pick up the X-T2 but it will be a beautiful addition.
Btw, you can switch the AE-L and the AF-L under button setup menu.
Thanks again!

Great video, thanks for that. Did you ever post a review of the X-Pro2? I saw some earlier videos but didn't see a review after you'd had the camera a while. Thanks again.

maybe too early to know but what I would like to see now that they have dual card slots - before you could shoot raw+1 jpeg or bracket 3 jpegs ( different simulations ) why not raw to one card and the 3 bracketed jpegs to the other? this would be really useful...

Why I should buy X-Pro2? I really like the style..and the design of the X-Pro2, however XT2 seems better, and less expensive...even if I am not a sport photographer ...please help!

Hello there, I just have to ask...why two watches? Now that's out of the way an X-T2 question...is the build quality and feel of all the controls as good as the X-Pro2...and is it a match for the likes of the Nikon D500 or Pentax K1...build quality wise?

As always it is a pleasure to watch your video's! I'm just wondering what brand of strap you have on the Xpro2 here ?

Take, the battery grip has a headphone jack. So we are covered from a video standpoint.

I guess we'll have to wait until some showdown reviews come out challenging the XT2 against the Sony A6300. On paper the specs between the two are very close. The biggest difference I can see is the Fuji has dual card slots and a slightly larger EVF. But the A6300 has the best 4K on the market, the fastest focusing on the market, a built-in flash and a higher FPS EVF than the XT2. Not sure if the XT2 is worth $600 more than the Sony A6300. At $999 this is the first time Sony seems to be offering best bang for the buck against it's competitors.

So, which one you prefer after all this time the Xpro2 or Xt2? Also, are you using flash? which one for the Xpro2?

How's the shutter sound? I love my X-Pro2's shutter sound, but I'm considering going XT2 because my favorite lens, the 16mm almost feels too heavy on the X-Pro2's body. There's a weird handling feel if you know what I mean.
