My mother got stung by one on the 31/12/2023 and spent 2 days in intensive care and a few more days in the hospital. She lost here voice for 6 weeks and is generally just more tired than before. The jellyfish are no joke.

I caught a box jelly in my cast net once. Didn't think much of it, shook out, rinsed off the net. About 5 minutes later my forearm turned red and had a very obvious burning sensation. I took a very SMALL hit probably from a broken tentacle in the net. I was damned lucky

We get about 40 reported box jellyfish stings every year here in Australia but there has not been a death for decades. I was stung by one in Madang Harbour in Papua New Guinea in 1996. I will never forget it. And growing up in Sydney I was stung about 30 or 40 times by bluebottles (Portugese man-of-war). Their sting is nothing compared to the box jellyfish.

If you're stung by a Portuguese man-o-war, get out of the water and pack wet sand on the wounds. I got stung when I was very young in the surf off Galveston TX. Our neighbor who was a dr immediately started packing the sand on my back and face where I got stung, and it immediately took the pain away. I think it has something to do with balancing the ph or something

Went fishing today, live close to pajinka. Walked though a small bit of shallow water back and forth 20x withhout issue. The last time I walked through, there was a big box less that 30cm away from my right leg directly infront of me cutting off my path. Had i stepped forward one more step i would have gone straight through it and dragged it up the rocks with me. Thanking my lucky stars and my good eyesight for seeing its blue tenticles.

I too got stunged by just a single tentacle on my hand and leg Today, it was sevire pain and unable to breath too but somehow later got reduced but still pain on legs and hands has a burning sensation

Box jellyfish stings and hurts a lot. On top of that they're translucent too making them almost unnoticeable and visible on clear waters. Nevertheless they're also delicious and serve as side dish for grilled fish.

Got stung by these mfers twice in the Philippines, jellyfish are crazy on those beaches... I did survive twice and it's painful af like it's burning burning. It's always the locals that saved me by putting a vinegar on the sting.. Idk what it does but it works lol and no need for hospitals. One local said the effect can vary cause some tourist die in like 5 mins because of how their body reacts to the poison.
