Estranged parents tend to say that they don’t know what the problem is. In most cases, the children told them specifically what the problem was; they just weren’t listening.

why do the parents feel like it’s the child’s responsibility to always be the bigger person, apologize first or reach out first?? your the adult. it’s your responsibility. stop acting like because you are the parent that you don’t do anything wrong.

It’s not just one thing. Usually it’s a build up of things throughout the years. I’m going through it right now. My mom gives me the silent treatment if I ever tell her no about something. She blames me for things I never done and she makes up stories where I almost started questioning if I was losing my mind. What really made me cut off all contact was when she asked me where I wanted to have dinner for my birthday and I told her it was ok. I don’t want to plan a dinner because everyone’s schedule is different and I just don’t want to have s late dinner or go on weektnds and deal with crowds etc so I told her all I wanted was to go to the zoo and I invited her but she didn’t want to go. She kept pushing me to plan s dinner ( she has some weird obsession about just having to have a birthday dinner ) and when I finally texted back “ I said no “! Bc I was tired of her just not letting me do what I want on my day ( I’m almost 40) …. Then she gave me the silent treatment and didn’t text, call nothing on my birthday. She is ignoring me. I have had to deal with this my entire life of her using me and only talking to me if I’m running her 100 errands. If I ever say no to anything I get the silent treatment. So I am putting an end to it. I blocked her number on my phone. I will be working out of town for 3 months. Her birthday is in July and she won’t be hearing from me either. I don’t know when I will be ready to talk to her. I’m going to go to therapy . I don’t have a time line for when I will talk to her. Could be months, years. Never. I need therapy. I need to learn some tools and hopefully gain Insight on why she is the way she is.

Maybe she think that you are speaking on a level like her when you said whatever, and no
t addressing it on better terms of words, but not to speak to you for 7 years.
Do you think maybe she is getting influence, or she hold any grudges against you? And then coming to family gatherings and don't speak to you?
Did you ever try to speak back to her?
I think that is to little of a falling out from her to stay away from you like that. Speak to your other children that is communicating with you, it would of been good if you move where your other children are to a different inviroment, maybe she would miss you then.

I disagree with Dr. Phil. It’s not always the parent. The adult child has behavioral immature emotional issues. The Mother is, right to say the child should come to her and apologize. Dr Phil right away made the mother feel like she was in the wrong.
