I really waited almost 20 yrs for this day literally sitting out my back yard blowing and looking at YouTube video's about Webb release date lol. Then they just kept pushing the date. I thought they was gonna cancel it for a moment but this was something mankind needs to see. Im glad im seeing this in my lifetime.

There might be a total of 50 to 100 people that could be more excited and is starting to breathe a little better than I am right now. My Uncle would have said no thanks to naming anything after him. He really wasn't that type of person in real life.
Now I can assure you that he would be proud now if he was still a live today.

I bet aunt Pat is happy and excited if she has been able to see them. I haven't see her since before he passed away.

After following updates and reading all the wiki pages of JWST since 2008, I feel like I am a part of it. So happy to see the results.

I am still surprised, and very enthused that JWS is working. I can't wait to see what's beyond the Hubble ultra deep field.

The realigned "mirror selfie" is so sharp, it looks like vector art rather than a photograph.

Slight correction: at 5m48s, 2 arcsec is 2000, not 200 milli-arcesec.

Nice presentation! And yes, this IS something to get excited about!!

Imagine being able to zoom close enough to an exoplanet to see city lights.

I have never subscribed to any channel on YT - just not a joiner - but I am seriously considering subscribing to yours mate. Unbelievably well done, intelligent without being overbearing and obtuse, and, of course, thoughtfully and enthusiastically presented. Not an easy thing to do. Cheers!

All the years of testing, retesting and launch delays have paid off. Knowing there is no way to repair the scope it was absolutely imperative to get it right the first time. And now because of that the scope is performing as good or even better than expected. JWST will provide important data for astronomers to study for years or decades after it's no longer in operation.

The fact that we got that clear of a picture with just 30 minutes of exposure is insane, I´m very excited to see where this is heading.

05:48 In my book, 1 milli means 1/1000th, not 1/100th.

I'm really excited to see the pictures and the science roll in. I've been waiting since it was conceived and in the building stages. Let's do this!

I had to do a lot of searching to find it, but the star that they used to align the James Webb mirrors has a magnitude of 11. The larger numbers are dimmer. Most people with good eyesight can see down to 6th magnitude. (Under dark skies with no Moon in the sky.) Its brightness in this image should give you an idea of how sensitive this telescope is.

I find it strange that NASA should find it necessary in their animations to generate reflections from those fine optical mirrors as having an irregular wiggliness, as though the mirrors have grotesque undulations worse than windowpanes in an 1800s era shack.

I used to use both the Hubble and the JWST (still in the planning stages) as examples to my students of how to "think backwards" and thus introduce them to the engineering involved.
I would show them a picture or video of something NASA was doing and then ask "Before they did this particular thing, what would they have had to engineer? How did they lift this? How did they attach the sling points? How did they calculate the load? What about the materials in the construction? etc etc. It was an interesting change from just using our Science books.
GLAD to see the JWST is finally " up n' runnin' ".
